Out of This World Engagement Party!

November 7th, 2006 @ 2:08 pm by Mrs. Lily

This past weekend, Mr. Lily’s lovely parents (who I adore) threw us an engagement party in the City. I just cannot rave enough about how wonderful it was to have our family together, and how completely fabulous the restaurant where they held the party was.

The restaurant is called Dani, and is in the West Village (Hudson and Charlton). The food — which was Sicilian with hints of Northern Africa — was spectacular! And the people who work at Dani were so accomodating and nice. They put together a special menu with Mr. Lily’s parents just for us and even printed up individual menus for each guest. Everything was perfect. I can’t wait to go back with Mr. Lily on our own!

Here are some pics of the space … and the food!

This is the area where the party was, although the tables were configured differently:

Cute flowers!

The bar was so pretty — it had such a nice, warm glow to it.

These chickpea battered calamari with aioli sauce were to die for. YUM.

Of all the desserts I sampled, this was my favorite: Steamed chocolate cake, with fudge sauce and hazelnut gelato. My next dress fitting is going to suck because of this baby, but boy was it worth it!

Who normally does one invite to an engagement party? Just immediate family or friends too?

If you’re in NYC, I totally recommend Dani — esp if your close like Mrs. Bee. It’s not super cheap, but I think it’s pretty reasonable for how cute the place is and how good the food is. FYI everyone loved the pork and the chickpea french fries were pretty awesome.

A — we had 2 engagement parties. One thrown by our friends at a bar and this one which was just uncles and cousins and parents… I guess you can do it any way you wnat though. I went to one recently that had all their family and friends combined!

Miss. Orange

We had two engagement parties — One Mr Orange and I threw for friends; and another his parents threw for family and relatives. Then again, we recently went to an engagement party where it was strictly only very good friends and family. It depends for ppl I guess!
