I went to Bora Bora and Moorea for my honeymoon…I would say that the accommodations in Bora Bora are much better than in Moorea. We stayed at the Pearl Beach in Moorea and the Intercontinental Thalasso in Bora Bora. Also, if you haven’t already, make reservations for dinner at Villa Mahana..really really good food (though a bit on the pricey side). They only serve 6 couples a night.

How pretty!! (Bora Bora and Moorea) I’m from L.A. and now live in Irvine (about a 20 minute drive to Garden Grove!) Exciting!

I have a dilema about Tahiti. Although it looks BEAUTIFUL…we’re a bit afraid that we won’t have anything to do while we’re there (except each other, of course). To those of you that have gone, what activities are there besides the beautiful scenery? Also, which islands do you recommend and for how long on each island. ANY insight you provide will be helpful!

yay! you will love it! we went to french polynesia too! it was sooo beautiful and truly the perfect honeymoon destination! enjoy!!!

in response to spunky…there’s lots to do in tahiti and the surrounding islands. we went on an eco-tour of the local tahitian vanilla farms and archeological ruins, a motorboat tour of the islands with snorkeling in remote locations and visits to tahitian pearl farms. there’s also horseback riding, hiking and many more excursions…but the best is just relaxing in the sun :)

Oooohhhhhh. *jealous!!* bora bora is originally the place we wanted to go for our honeymoon. in the beginning i thought we could afford it, until i realized the prices listed were per PERSON! hahaha. so yah, some other day hopefully… i wanted to ask… do you feel any different taking your honeymoon later? we will have about a one month gap bw our wedding and honeymoon and that always kinda makes me sad when i think about it. it’s like yay! we’re married (on sat). and then back to work on monday. hmm perhaps i shall blog about this… ^_^

Peaches: this trip is actually WAY out of our price range but the husband was like what the hell, we only do this once. the gap between our wedding to our minimoon was 3 months. the gap between our wedding to our actual honeymoon would be 7 months. i think in your situation a month is nothing. and it actually gives you something to look foward to.

and i too was planning on going into work the following monday after i got hitched but my boss said if he saw me in on monday he’d fire me. hahahaha so i came in on tuesday.

I went to Moorea, Bora Bora, and Tahiti on my honeymoon in June 2005 and it was the perfect honeymoon. Most of my regular family vacations are very very active (atv, golf, scuba) so I kind of liked relaxing on my honeymoon for a change. Moorea was not as great as Bora Bora. We stayed at the Intercontinental and I hated the beach there, it was part beach, part boat dock so the boats were in my view of the beautiful lagoons. We had an over water bungalow in Moorea and Bora Bora but in Moorea the water wasn’t deep enough and we had a sunrise bungalow so it was no fun to lay out in the shade. I also didn’t care for the pool at the Intercontinental in Moorea, it seemed like the employees brought their families to swim there (and they have very big families with lots of kids). So I would recommend the Sheraton in Moorea since that may be more honeymoon friendly. Although the spa treatments at the Helene Spa at the Intercontinental were the best I’ve ever had (we did a couples massage and a flower bath). We did a sunset cruise in Moorea that was awesome. The local restaurants are better than the hotel dining and somewhat cheaper but I didn’t care for the food, I thought it would be more French since it’s French Polynesia but it was more Pacific/Island food (lots of curry, seafood was great but somewhat more exotic with Waho, Mahi Mahi). We liked The Mayflower (it’s the locals fancy restaurant but it’s very casual); Te Honu Itu was great too in Moorea. In Bora Bora we stayed at the Bora Bora Nui Resort and Spa (Luxury Collection of Starwood) and it was awesome. We had the best bungalow, over water, furthest one out on the pier with a sunset view. They have a deal where you stay for 5 nights you get the 6th free and you can get 35% off the rack rate and 35% off at the spa, but you have to ask for this, they don’t tell you when you are booking it if you don’t ask. We did shark feeding and sting ray feeding and snorkeling (all in one trip) and it was really fun and scary although I’d be more afraid of the sting rays now. Villa Mahana is a must…it was authentic French food in a very romantic atmosphere and fancier than the other restaurants we ate at. We went to Bloody Mary’s (it’s a tourist place that everyone goes to but it’s fun and tropical). I liked the Linerva Floating Restaurant (but it does rock since it’s on the water so not the best place if you are prone to get see sick or motion sick). We really liked the food at Fare Manuia. At the time we were there in July they have an international dance competition that’s like going to a luau without the food but it was very fun to watch. At night there’s nothing to do in any of the islands. We stayed at the Intercontinental in Tahiti in a lanai room (regular hotel room) for two nights so we could make our very early morning flight home. Tahiti isn’t nearly as nice as the other islands since it’s very commercial, our hotel was very nice. We walked around downtown Papette, took the bus with the locals (I’m from NYC so I know how to take buses). I bought some black pearls (note: don’t have them set the pearls in a piece of jewelry while you are there, just buy loose pearls and have them set for you at home. The price of gold is crazy there, I spent $400 on just the gold chain for my necklace). The Intercontinental in Tahiti was the only hotel we actually enjoyed our food at, they have a famous (in Tahiti it’s famous) restaurant called Le Lotus with a “celebrity” chef so the food was very good. We did the luau night for our second night there and that was great especially since they pulled me on stage to dance! Tahiti is where all the cruise ships take off from so there were lots of families and older people there and not as many honeymooners.
