Sadly enough, Mr. Plumeria and I never got into the habit of taking candid pictures together whenever we go places, so out of all the time we’ve been together, I only have a handful of nice pictures of us. Needless to say, the prospect of taking some nice engagement photos together is cause for major excitement!

I’ll be sure to post them after we’ve taken them, but for now, here’s our chosen photographer, for engagement pics as well as our wedding: Garrett Burdick. As an amateur shutterbug myself, I had a clear vision for the style of photography I wanted, and most photographers whose work I found myself liking were way out of our reach budget-wise. Then, I came upon GB Photographers and fell in love with the beautiful images I discovered there, especially the slide shows in the “Testimonials” section.

Garrett’s demeanor is easy-going and friendly, yet his expertise in the field and passion to tell a story come through at first meeting, as well. (Bonus that pretty much had Mr. Plumeria sold, straight off: Garrett is also a photo location scout and frequently shoots sports portraits with his partners in that business, including ESPN projects and the like.) In addition to himself, Garrett brings professional colleague Matt Reoch along to help capture all the details of the day. Final outcome includes online viewing and purchasing at very reasonable prices, as well as cloth albums with all of the final selected images. DVDs with all of the digital high-res files are Mr. Plumeria’s and mine to keep, six months after the wedding.

Garrett’s prices, which I know have increased since we booked him over half a year ago, are extremely reasonable considering all the time he spends taking and editing photos (he shoots all digitally). Working in the creative field myself, I can really appreciate the many post-wedding hours it takes to perfect the art of retouching and do not doubt that he will be worth every penny (for us, about $6K from a previous pricelist, including engagement pics and a formal portrait session before the wedding). Our biggest splurge for our carefully-budgeted wedding is photography and we were determined not to scrimp in this important area. We are confident that with Garrett, we will be receiving photos we’ll cherish forever.
