About Mrs. Poppy

I’m back… almost!

November 9th, 2006 @ 5:38 pm by Mrs. Poppy

Mr. Poppy and I have moved to New Jersey and now we’re literally a 7 min drive to Port Authority. After unpacking and arranging furniture and all that jazz, I’ve lost a good 10lbs. I don’t know where it went since my body looks exactly the same to me. But I tried on my wedding dress and I’m freaking out: it’s strapless and I can see my feet! Did that make sense? The boob area is too large now and I can see my stomach and my feet down through the dress. Before the boob area was too tight - I was pretty proud of my twins, but now I’m concerned.

I went to a bunch of alteration places/dry cleaners around my area and asked if they could alter it. They all said no and told me to buy another dress!!! ACK!!!! What am I to do? I bought my dress from David’s Bridal in Boston a long while ago. Does anyone know if they exchange for a different size despite how long it’s been since I bought the dress? If they don’t let me exchange it, I might have to sell it and rebuy it. I want to go to the city and get alterations there, but the problem is that I don’t have a car. *DOH*

I was telling Miss Kiwi (who I think is a complete cutie-patootie) that I feel so unprepared for the wedding. Watch me walk down and my dress just falls to my ankles. YIKES. But even though I feel like there is more I have to do for the wedding, even if it doesn’t go perfectly, I’ll be happy just to spend the day with people I love… especially Mr. Poppy.

But you can’t blame a girl for not wanting her dress fall off her body. hehe

PS: I know 10lbs sounds like a lot. But I’m still plump. shy1.gif

As an ex-David’s employee, I can tell you that being that you bought it a “long while ago” you’re going to want to see if the style was discontinued first. If it has been, then they probably won’t let you. If it hasn’t been discontinued then go ahead and give it a try. They may not let you if it’s past the “exchange” deadline they usually go by, but the worst they can say is “no.” Hope that helps :)

Miss Poppy. :( I don’t know what to tell you! I don’t have a dress yet so I have no idea there, and I wish you could take some of my chestal region to hold you until the wedding. :( I don’t understand WHY they can’t just fix it? I mean, what would it entail? I also don’t know if David’s exchanges. DB can be tricky sometimes. :( I’m sorry, though. Anything I can do to help, just ask!

I can understand if you got bigger, but why is it so difficult to take your dress in? I have mine sitting around and haven’t had it altered yet.. Should I be worried? David Bridal does altering too, did you try there?

I bought my dress from David’s Bridal a few months ago and remember them telling me they will exchange it at any time before the wedding under two conditions: they still carry the style (you can check their website and see if the style is still displayed there) and you need a size that is at least 2 sizes different from the one you currently have. Otherwise, your only option from them is alterations. Good luck!!

Welcome back Miss Poppy! I was beginning to wonder where you were (it’s so hard to keep track of all the bloggers, I couldn’t remember that you were moving). I hope you’re able to find a way to fix your dress. BTW, from previous pictures, you don’t look plump at all! I’m surprised you even had 10 lbs. to lose!

Your dress should be able to be altered easily. The bodice can be taken in from the sides. That’s how my seamstress did mine, it was too big as well, but not to the point where I could see my toes through the dress! Alternatively a more drastic measure, short of buying another dress, is to put in a corset back (assuming it doesn’t change the look of the dress too much). I’m not sure how much time you have before the wedding but I hope it all works out for you!

How soon are you getting married? Not to bring you down or anything, but often when you lose weight very quickly like that, it comes right back again unless you work hard to keep it off. So if you alter your dress to fit your current shape, you’d better make sure not to regain! If your wedding is a while off, hold back on getting the dress altered because of that. If it is soon, a good dressmaker or tailor should be able to put a few darts in the bodice to make it fit better.

Are you sure someone can’t alter it? I’d try a few of the places in Manhattan that people swear by (G+G Cleaners, etc). My cousin bought her wedding dress at a sample sale in a size 8 and had someone alter it down to a 0 or a 2! I’m pretty sure what you’re asking can be done, although i don’t know what your dress looks like.

Congrats on the move!
