Researching for Honeymoon Meals

November 9th, 2006 @ 9:34 am by Mrs. Orange

If you’re like me, you research before going to a restaurant. What were the reviews like? Do they have a menu somewhere on the web? What are the average cost of entrees? The list goes on and on. What I found very useful in my quest to locate good restaurants in a number of past travel destinations is chowhound. Just lurking around, reading people’s posts will give you ideas of the local flava!

What do you use to research for your honeymoon? Do share. ;)

By the way, Mr. Orange and I will be vacationing in Key West for our HM. Yay!

Why Key West?
(1) We both wanted to go somewhere warm
(2) I cannot leave the country due to my immigration status — (Well, to be exact, I can leave, but I can’t come back in!)
(3) We wanted to go to a place where we can veg out as well as do things (snorkeling, eating, sight-seeing)

I use egullet.com to help with restaurant recommendations. They have a florida forum where you can ask questions.

Sometimes fodors.com can help with restaurants as well.

I love to research my honeymoon!

Have fun in Key West!!! It’s one of my favorite places in the world! The food at Fogarty’s on Duval is good. Their conch fritters are some of the best in Key West. I would also recommend Geiger Key Marina if you have transportation. Their food is bar food, but Key West style. And you eat right on the water. It’s a little ways from Key West, and there are directions here http://www.geigerkeymarina.com/contact.html! Have fun! And don’t miss the sunset celebration!

I did a ton of research on restaurants before our Santa Fe honeymoon. Something I found helpful, which might not be as much so for foreign trips, is searching out independant newspapers in the city. I got a lot of my reviews that way, and I didn’t have a bad meal!

Try B.O.’s Fish Wagon in the downtown area… it’s a funky little eatery and they have a great clams casino. Mangoes on Duval street was my favorite restaurant- dine on the patio if the weather is nice. There’s also a restaurant on Thomas Street called Blue Heaven and the pancakes are absolutely delicious- try to stop in for breafast. Key West Key Lime Shoppe on Elizabeth street has a great key lime pie.

I LOVE Key West. My family has a timeshare down there and I’ve onlybeen twice but I really liked it. Actually they are going this spring break but because I’m in college my spring break is different and I can’t go. I’m not 21 yet so I’ve never been to the bars, but I’ve always had a good time. Mallory Square is a must see for the sunset celebration. Also the last time we went we went snorkling and kayaking, but not with one of the big companies, we found a guy that had a smaller boat and so it was a nice personal/private trip for us and our family friends. I don’t exactly remember the name of the company but he was located near the Turtle Crawls. Have SO much fun, I am so jealous!
