About Mrs. Plumeria

The Scent of a Bride

November 9th, 2006 @ 1:45 pm by Mrs. Plumeria

I have gone through quite the list of perfumes in my lifetime, ranging from oh-so-trendy Gap Dream in my preteen years, to sweet, vanilla-y scents that characterized all perfumes during what I now call my “pastry” stage, to zesty citrus fragrances a la Clinique Happy, and finally to my current and, I like to think, more sophisticated signature scent, a mix of light floral with the faintest musky undertone.

I do not wear fragrance daily — it’s still more of a special occasion type of thing — but I would like to use some on the wedding day. My sense of smell is super sensitive, and I know if I wear a perfume on what will be one of the happiest days of my life, I will be able to reminisce on the joyful memories every time I wear the scent thereafter.

Coincidentally, while part of me yearned to search out and purchase a new perfume for the wedding, I eventually decided that my current fave has too many things going for it for me to not use it. First off, and most importantly ¢¢â€š¬” I love the smell of it and have all of the items in the line for “layering.” Secondly, it was a present from Mr. Plumeria, who also enjoys the scent. And thirdly, with a name like “Perfect White Dress,” how can I toss it aside for something else on the day when a perfect white dress figures more prominently in my life than any ever will?

I know this makes me seem like a complete Bare Escentuals nut. I’m really not. ;-)

What perfume, if any, are you planning to wear on your wedding day, and why did you choose it?

Miss Plumeria, I also wore Dream (and it never smelled as good on ME as it did everyone else!), AND also had a candy/cupcake/frosting scented phase! Now, though, i wear Cacharel’s Promesse, I smelled it in a Cosmo and loved it. Then Mr. Kiwi bought me the set (including lotion) for my anniversary gift last year. I DO wear it everyday, and everytime I do, people say, “God, you smell SO good.” Whenever family hug me, they say the same thing. EVERY time. I think I finally found the right one that people associate with me, and finally smells good on ME. Sometimes I even get a whiff and go, wow, what is that? It’s ME! What does yours smell like? Flowery?

I’m thinking of getting Sarah Jessica Parker’s “Lovely.” I spritzed it on in a dept store once and loved it. FI loved it too and I was about to buy it. I thought for a moment that I would wait and buy it closer to the wedding day and wear it only on that day and after so that I wouldn’t grow tired of it before my wedding. I’m keeping my options open, but right now, that’s my favorite!

Lol i was going to blog about this as well! It’s even in my list of future topics :-P

I looooove fragrance and like to layer. Yeah, I’m one of *those* people, lol. Most days I use Bath and Body Works Jasmine Vanilla shower gel, topped with some plumeria body spray and a tiny bit of Britney Spears “Curious” perfume. I also have some Hugo Boss “Deep Red,” but I wore it in high school when I worked retail so now whenever I wear it I feel like I need to put on my black and white and go to Sears :-P So I’ll probably just wear my standard stuff on the wedding day…it’s how Mr. Blueberry is most used to smelling me :-)

I went through the same thing! I feel like I’ve been through every type of scent under the sun. LOL, I wore Dream in my preteen years. Once I hit the teens though I went for Victoria’s Secret body sprays or Bath and Body Works splashes. I would never finish a bottle because I would always get tired of it and have to get a new one. Then I moved on to the cookie-like, vanilla, sugary sweet stage. That got old really quick because the scents changed on my skin. Then I went through a Demeter stage. I LOVE how those things smell so real! Then one day I walked into Sephora and saw a perfume called Butterfly (by Hanae Mori). Since my friends call me Butterfly (I LOVE butterflies. Morphos to be more specific) I thought “That HAS to be made for me!” Sure enough, it was! It has so many layers to it that as the scent changes throughout the day I feel like I’m wearing a new scent. I’ve been wearing it for years now. Some people smell me and say, “You smell like flowers!” While some smell me and say “You smell like dessert!” I think it’s different to everyone’s nose, which I think is cool. I don’t wear it on a daily basis anymore (I used to) because I’m afraid it might react with something in the lab I work in now, but it’s definitely going to be my wedding perfume.

Wow, sorry this got so long!

I am currently loving Ralph Lauren’s Romance and have been for years. I’ve heard its good to have two perfumes in a cycle if you wear it everyday so that you don’t get bored of either.

Also I found this and thought some brides-to-be might be interested. Supposedly the 2007 will release in December or January.

I think I am going to splurge and buy Chanel No. 5 for my wedding day. I love how it smells, everytime I got into a department store that carries it I spray some on and I know my fiance loves how it smells. Plus it is such a classic scent how can it be wrong?

Falling in Love from Philosophy. It was the first present I got from my FI (there is a long story that I won’t bore you with but it involves some really nice body cream and my lotion allergies…).

Sadly I did not wear any fragrance on my wedding day. Our wedidng was outdoor in a redwoods estate and I didn’t want to risk bugs flying around me. Oh well, they didn’t, so I guess I was right afterall (although somewhat bummed).

My favorites though, are Clarins Tranquility, L’Eau D’Issey, and Hermes perfumes (the one last year that I don’t remember the name of, and this year’s Merveilles). I like SJP’s Lovely too and it’s on my list-of-perfumes-to-get-at-duty-free, and now I am so curious about Perfect White Dress!

I wanted to be trendy, yet still different so I work Gap’s Heaven when I was a pre-teen.

Then in highschool every cool girl had to wear Tommy Girl. I moved on to Lucky You until I started dating my fiance because his ex used to wear it.

Now I alternate between a light Bath and Body Works spray at work (because LOTS of people in my department are allergic to anything heavier than that) or Vera Wang’s Princess or DKNY’s Be Delicious (Green).

Since FI loves Princess, that’s what I’ll be wearing on my wedding day. Especially because that’s what I’ll feel like. :)

I wore Bath and Body “Romance” on the big day. I spritz it on daily, and on special days, I use the roll-on bottle and roll it on to various places… :)

I think I’m going to have to venture into the perfume department and smell all of these! Even though I’ve made my choice for the big day, I still like to let my nose explore. Ah, Tommy Girl. I forgot about that one — I used that too. Also, those Bath and Body scents: I worked at the flagship store nearest my hometown for a long while in high school… still have vestiges of all the products I bought then even now! I’m currently enjoying their Vanilla Bean Noel body wash in my shower. :)

I LOVE their new temptations at Bath and Body Works: Spiced Apple Rapture is AMAZING. It’s my shampoo and body wash.
