Yesterday Miss Butterfly and I made the trek to Hidy Hair Salon in New Jersey to get our hair done. They have a location in Manhattan, but Jay the hair wizard is at the New Jersey location. It was just a busride over the Geroge Washington bridge so it wasn’t that bad since it’s right off the first stop. Miss Butterfly got a color touch-up and her hair trail #2, and I got a steam perm.

This is some type of steam treatment that makes your hair super soft.

We look like aliens!

Or perhaps like Strawberry Shortcake. Oooo - blindingly sparkly.

My hair before… I had no idea that it was this freakishly long because I always have it up in a clip.

The entire process took over 4 hours! There are all these new Japanese perm processes that make your curls looser and more like it’s curled than the traditional perms.

After - I love it!!

All Jay did was divide my hair into two sections and twirl them around his fingers while blowdrying. He straightened the roots so I’d have straight hair on top with curls starting from the middle of my head. He showed me different ways to style it so I can make this a lot curlier if I want with some product and scrunching.

After her trial Miss Butterfly also got some highlights.

If you need a perm or cut, Jay is super duper talented. Miss Butterfly has been going to him for like a decade and has convinced all her friends to become his loyal devotees as well. This is the second time I’ve had my hair done by Jay, and I’m a believer!
