Photocards

November 13th, 2006 @ 10:10 am by Mrs. Spider

Update: How did she do it?

I picked ten or so pictures from our professional proofs. Of the ten, 2-3 were detail pictures of our centerpieces, unity candle etc. Using Photoshop, I reduced the size of the images and cropped/enhanced them as needed. Then I made a black and white version of every photo. To create the layout, I opened up Adobe Illustrator where I played around with the color and B/W version of each photo. The possibilities were endless hence the 5 hour time line. After I committed the photos, I printed proofs using 4×6 glossy photo paper and my Canon Pixma iP5200 printer. Side by side, here are some of the color vs. B/W photos:

~~~
Took me a GOOD five hours to make these 4×6 cards. I printed some with glossy photo paper and it looks awesome.
We might use Kodak Gallery for the rest since it only costs 15 cents a print. You likey?
I love how your dress is flowy from all the layers of organza or is it chiffon? Who designed your dress?
The postcard looks really good. Love the idea how you can save money by making your own instead of doing it from these online photo print services. I feel ashame to call myself a graphic designer.
I LOVE the postcards! What an awesome idea. What program did you use to create them?
Also, check out clarkcolor.com for your prints. I currently use them for all my digital photo printing needs. Their prints are only 11 cents each and are of great quality!
I really like them…using them for thank you’s?
I was planning on doing something similar, but tell me: did you get these in a timely enough manner to use them as thank you’s (month, couple weeks?).
They look fantastic! As a guest, I know I would love receiving something with pictures (hate boring thank you’s!). ;-)
You can simply use programs like Adobe Photoshop Illustrator or In Design to create postcards like that.
has anyone looked into different options for holiday cards? Just wondering since most of us are engaged or married. Are you sending them with your (future) spouse or with your family?
I’m thinking of including a great photo from our honeymoon and I’m looking for photo card companies that are inexpensive…
and also, you can download Adobe Illustrator as a trial for 30 days if you dont have it…however, i dont really know how to use Adobe Illustrator in terms of laying out all the pictures and line them up with Adobe Illustrator…i guess i have to play around or get some help on google.
I did my little own version of postcard simply on photoshop, because of heavy photo image of cropping and editing. Illustrator is more of a use for drawing. I did my project all on photoshop with my own wedding pics, here are the differences from photoshop and illustrator.
Both are very good programs, basically you can use both for any occasions.
Mrs. Fadingflowers,
thanks for the info…if possible, could you give me directions in terms of cut and paste differents photos so they lay up like your STD example. love your example pic…it’s cute…
i used photoshop to enhance the pics and create black and white versions. i like to use illustrator for layouts because it has a nicer artboard. i’m really not an expert with either. it’s a lot of trial and error! i’m so happy everyone likes the card.
