Chocolate Roses

November 14th, 2006 @ 6:15 pm by Mrs. Bee

Due to the popularity of brown color schemes in weddings, French rose breeder NIRP International has created a chocolate rose called the Terra Nostra.

They may still be hard to find, but for those of you using brown in your color schemes, would you want to use chocolate roses?

katy says:

I like these. Maybe not as an all brown bouquet or centerpiece, but definitley as an accent, or mixed with pink roses or green hydrangeas.

3.
amy says:

i don’t care much for the brown, but these could look really pretty with a monochromatic creme/white/ivory/beige scheme… or a baby blue and cream?

4.
Miss Lime says:

ew. nope. i

5.
newly_engaged says:

eh, they look like freeze dried dead roses. i would totally pass.

florists will use dark (red?) flowers that photograph dark brown. i forget what they’re called but there are options to get dark flowers into your bouquets/centerpieces.

JoyJoy says:

umm..I’m not a huge fan either, and I LOVE brown. I think maybe they’re not a rich enough hue? A step lighter and they would look almost exaclty like terra cotta roses. I do see how they would look nice as an accent, though.

mmm nooooo my colors are chocolate brown and pink but i would never use brown roses. brown flowers = dead flowers!! i am using brown as accents and to give more warmth!

they look like they’re freeze-dried..very interesting~ i’m sure there will be brides that will be ecstatic to use them in their wedding

superstellathewoman says:

that’s actually a very pretty muted brown. i can see it going well with other light colors; the pink and peach.. maybe some hydrangeas. gotta pair it up with something, cause by itself i think it looks dead.

Jayme says:

I think they would be good sparsley dispersed in a bouquet or something, but I am not a fan in seeing them in this picture–it looks dead? :-)

patty says:

I bought those beautiful brown roses from Costco few months ago, and the price tag was the same as other color roses!!

CC says:

I love these! They do look like chocolate in the pic, though (Must remember not to eat the floral arrangements)….

Jennifer says:

I saw this picture in Modern Bride, and I think the color was a lot richer there. I wonder what the actual color is? Maybe it’s just my work monitor!

I LOVE these!! I am getting married in March and my colors and chocolate brown, turqouise, and white. I am having the hardest time finding flowers that will look good in my wedding. This is exactly what I need, but unfortunately I probably won’t be able to find someone who can get them. I just wish they would have been introduced a year earlier. Oh well. But these are great flowers!!

When i first heard of ‘brown roses’ my first though was “brown? dead…” lol but when i finally say a picture i love them, they are really unique! They would look so lovely mixed in with creme, pink, turqouise or any of the other colors mentioned here.

LOVE these…they are perfect for a fall wedding. Red roses are sooo common! These are so unique and classy…the prefect compliment to a brown/chocolate inspired wedding.

YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!! where can i find them? I need them for my October wedding which is cholate brown and ivory.

33.
Jennifer says:

Everyone keeps saying they look dead….I think they are beautiful! I think they would look wonderful in a bouquet with warm autumn colors like burnt orange or gold or burgundy! They would also look great with turquois for a contemporary autumn wedding;)

Michelle Mc says:

I LOVE them! And we are actually using them for my wedding in 3 weeks. We have a brown color scheme, champagne, latte and truffle, with accents of red. We are having each bridesmaid have a different color rose, this one, a deep red and the saharra rose with choloate cosmos and my boquet has all of them.

35.
Ashley says:

I LOVE them, in fact, I’m currently searching them out.

I quite like them. I think they would suit better if they were a bit darker? My wedding theme is brown and white, i wish we could get these roses here in New Zealand as i would use them. Maybe not for my bouquet but definately somewhere!

They look just like chocolate…. I LOVE CHOCOLATE lol

christy says:

I think they are very pretty and would great with ivory roses.

They look good enough to eat! They are a good alternative for ladies who are using the brown color scheme. It’s hard! The only other flower I’ve found that looks brown are chocolate cosmos.

I am doing a friend’s daughter’s wedding which has a vintage theme. So far we have only found Leonidas and several other ‘antique-looking’ roses from bigrose.com. I would love to find just a few of these to intersperse in the bouquet & table vases. Anyone have a source?????? Thank you, Rona

45.
Judy says:

I think they’re great and would use them in my chocolate brown/pink wedding — only just a few, dappled with ivory roses and pink.

46.
Collette says:

I am interested in these too for my wedding, I’ve heard from a friend that a florist called “A Love’s In Bloom” will be showcasing them at a Bridal Fair at the San Ramon Marriott on Sunday 10/5/08, if anyone is interested in seeing them “for real”

47.
Judy says:

@Collette:
I live in northwestern Michigan (hour north of Grand Rapids), and I have no idea where I might find them — admittedly, I have not had a lot of time to research where I might find them and have not talked with my florist, but we we are in a very rural setting) … I wonder how easily I’d be able to get a two or three dozen …
