Dresses

Maybe I’m the last person in the world to discover this, but Target has some *really* cute dresses–they would be perfect for a shower or rehearsal dress, or even an informal bridesmaid’s dress!

Check ‘em out:

This is $44.99, in taffeta:

From the genius Issac Mizrahi, you could add a ribbon sash to this one to make it match your wedding colors ($59.99):

So simple and elegant, this cotton dress would be amazing for an informal wedding–you could also accent it with some ribbon or lace to personalize it ($39.99):

Any of these would definitely be great options for the bride on a budget :).

A couple of other stores you might not think to look at would be Forever 21, Old Navy (I have a *really* cute linen dress I got there, and it’s pretty dressy, too), or discounters like Marshall’s, Filene’s Basement and TJ Maxx. You don’t necessarily have to go to a bridal or formal shop to find a great rehearsal dress or BM’s dress :).

What are your favorite stores for cute stuff on the cheap?

I admit that I love Forever21 for a quick, dressy buy. When I have more time I check out thefifteendollarstore.com. I’ve gotten countless outfits that would normally cost upwards of $50-60/piece there for $15 each item. :-) You do kind of have to hunt through the site to find the good stuff, though. It also helps to know the brands you’re buying so you already have an idea of the fit.

I was at Target today to try on an Isaac Mizrahi holiday dress, but they didn’t have any of his dresses in my size in stock. I like it so much that I’m buying it online blind. I tried on all the IM pants and shirts at the store to get an idea, and it turns out I wear a size 2 pants/x-small top. Reviews online say they run true to size, but what does that mean? You’d think I’d get the dress in a 2, right? However, the reviews for that dress are all over the board. One person who is 105lb and 5 ft 6 ordered the 2, and “she can’t gain a pound” in it. Other ppl insist that the dress runs large, and to size down.

I am so confused. They only had a size 2 or a size 8 left, so I went ahead and got the 2. Hope it fits, but won’t know till it arrives.

You know what would be really helpful? A comparison size guide that compares store sizes so you’d know what you really fit.
