Smiley Face Wedding Gown

November 14th, 2006 @ 3:05 pm by Mrs. Spider

I watched this totally bizarre story on the CW11 morning news today. This woman bought a $6K Kenneth Pool gown from Kleinfeld, got her wedding photos and only then realized that the beading on her dress formed a big smiley face :). I know what you’re thinking: wtf? no way. Dude, watch the clip yourself (click on what else? smiley face wedding gown).

OMG?!?! I KNOW!! And yes, that was Austin Scarlett trying to dodge the cameras!!

How did she miss this? The smiley face is so clearly there. Like the beads were blacked out with permanent marker!! I know what you’re thinking, the evil bead work people played a mean trick on her. Tsk. tsk. tsk. Don’t be so quick to judge, check out the same gown on a runway model:

Apart from the same smiley face adorning her bust, this model also appears to be missing an earring. What’s going on over there at Kenneth Pool?

Dude, I’d be pissed. At least make it a star or something. Make the smiley straight! Yikes!

I totally noticed the KP earring thing when I was looking at the collection. I assume it’s so you can get an idea of the dress with a dramatic earring vs. no earring (or a small earring).

However, I also noticed that in the same show some models have two earrings, which leads me to believe that SOMEONE made a mistake as to how many earrings to have on hand - oops! Yes, I over think everything.

Wow. What a messy mistake. I bet no one noticed the smiley until it was too late. That poor bride just happened to have the right lighting that really made the smiley stand out. I’d be crying.

All she needs to do is have her photographer photoshop it out. No worries!

Yup, I agree with Jen. Photoshop should be a quick and easy fix. Now if she had a videographer, too…

I’m sorry, but I don’t have too much sympathy. She saw the dress. She tried it on. If she didn’t see the smiley face, serves her right.

but it was THE DRESS of her dreams for HER BIG DAY ;)

I agree with weezermonkey…she should have been paying attention.

If this is the worst thing that happened at her wedding, the only source of frustration in her marriage, etc and so on. I mean really, it’s a pretty dress, it’s not noticeable unless you’re looking for it… Me? I’d laugh it off.

I keep hearing variations on “she should have been paying attention” or seeing examples of why details are important. Maybe my wedding won’t be Best. Ever., but those things just don’t matter that much to me. I’ll have fun and marry my best friend.

Ha Ive seen this dress on other brides on theknot.com
I would be pissed. How could you not notice. It was even in her pictures of her trying on the dress before she bought it.

I would understand how she could have missed it. The beads that form the smiley face may not be too obvious when looked at in person. But the beads may deflect flash or light in a way that makes the beads look dark and stand out in photos.

I have to agree with weezermonkey though. I don’t think anyone owes her a refund for the dress. Apparently, it’s how the dress is designed.

its not that the beading was designed in a smiley face…its the light reflecting off darker beads..and most designers dont test their beading in the dark with a camera flash. funniest thing i have seen all day.

The bride needs to get a sense of humor about the whole thing. So she’s the Smiley Face Dress Bride, so what? Everyone will forget about this in a couple of weeks, and if she was cool about it she’d have a good laugh about it when looking through her wedding pictures for years to come.

She needs to relax. In the grand scheme of life, is this really that much of a big deal that she needs to call up the local news and demand her money back?

i had to laugh at how the amsale staff did not notice the smiley face earlier on..but it is rather sad..c’mon ladies - i think it’s kinda hard to look out for smiley faces on your dream dress…i agree, she could have picked up on it earlier, but she didn’t…and by watching the clip we can all agree that you end up focusing on the smiley face in all of her wedding pictures…no one would want to go through that..i would be so frsutrated and sad…Amsale did offer a fair deal in regards to the retouching..they need to worry about their PR

That made me laugh–a smiley face dress HAHA. I think she got a really reasonable offer, pictures are what matter anyways… not like she’s going to wear the dress again.

Um… I have to agree that it’s her own fault! It’s not like the smiley face magically appeared on her dress the day of the wedding. L-A-M-E!
