About Mrs. Bee

Ask The Bee

November 15th, 2006 @ 11:35 am by Mrs. Bee

Kristen asks:

Do you work on weddingbee.com as your full time job? I love what you have turned the site into!

~~~
This is one of the most common questions that people ask, so I thought it’d be a good one to start with.
Most of you know that I started weddingbee as a personal blog on Xanga while I was planning my own wedding. At the time I was working on launching another blog-based site geared towards Asian Americans. But my weddingbee xanga just took off and since I was immersed in weddings at the time, it seemed logical to launch weddingbee.com first.
So to answer your question - yes, running weddingbee.com is my full-time job. What exactly do I do? I edit posts, schedule posts to go live at regular intervals throughout the day, write posts, build new features, *try* to answer email galore, recruit new bees, meet with vendors in the industry, attend wedding/networking events, and plan for other sites that will eventually fall under the Busy Bee Blogs umbrella.
It’s a lot of work, and I’ve actually needed an intern for quite some time. (Anyone interested? ;)) I typically work between 12-16 hours a day, 7 days a week. Tis a grueling schedule, and I’ve recently vowed to cut back so Mr. Bee and I have some time to spend together (we hardly see each other!).
But I absolutely love what I do, and I put my heart and soul into weddingbee. :) Thanks so much for your kind words - it’s a community of awesome people like you that makes my job so rewarding!
your hard work and passion are evident in the excellent site! the variety of topics, the unique perspectives, the plethora of fresh ideas makes this site addicting. Traditional wedding media seems positively stale and churned-out in comparison to all the creative brides on weddingbee.
i’ve actually read your xanga site once upon a time. i prefer this site to traditional boards. it’s more fun [and constantly updated] and its really cool to see what actual brides are doing or thinking about doing with their weddings. plus, it’s VERY welcoming and friendly to the non-engaged like myself. keep up the great work!
What kind of intern are you looking for in general? What are there roles? What kind of responsibilities do they need to do?
I concur with the other ‘bees — it’s so much fun to be a part of it. I wholeheartedly support Busy Bee Blogs and would love to help you as much as I can as you expand! :) Especially if we ever went the route of printed publications… call me, I would so be there!
