About Reader Buzz

Mrs. Bee here.

So many brides enjoy the wedding planning process, that they want to get into the wedding industry after their own nuptials. I mean that’s exactly what I did! :P

Whether it’s as planners, invitation designers, florists, bloggers ;)… If you had the opportunity - would you want to work in the wedding industry?

I think that I would. I love the whole process. But I think I will likely end up just trying to influence my friends’ weddings as they tie the knot.

I would love to work in the wedding industry. It would be a dream. I love the whole process…from beginning to end…

I would love to work in the wedding industry. A few years back, I was thinking of interning for Kate Edmonds, wedding planner extraoridnaire, but opted not to because of the somewhat long commute from NJ to NY. Who knows if I would’ve made the cut anyway.

YES!! I would love it. I tried to get a job at the florist shop that both my grandma and mom worked at for years. I plan on using them as my florist! :)

Absolutely! I think I would love to open a dress shop. Just imagine going in everyday to see another womans face light up when she finds her dress. I am sure with all businesses it isnt rosy and puppies everyday of the week, but I think it would be work it.

I would totally LOVE flowers. But I suck at things and am totally lazy when it comes to things like that. I work in bursts. :)

Overall, I’m enjoying the process for myself, but I’m not sure I’d want to do the whole thing all over again. I definitely would not want to be a planner or coordinator.

I’d love to continue with finding and recommending new product, which I can potentially do through weddinbee, but that’s more of a hobby than a job/carrer.

I might want to be involved somehow, through paper or something, but I’d need an area that allowed for servicing other industries other than exclusively weddings…I’m an antsy one and need variety.

That’s what I did!!! i was at a point that I didn’t know what I was going to be doing in my life and after my wedding I wanted something to do. Little by little I started coordinating local “knottie” weddings and they began reccomending me. Feb 2005 is when I officially started with a website, email and such and it’s been a pleasure ever since.

i don’t know. i have a habit of pushing my ideas onto other people so that probably wouldn’t be the way to go. i am enjoying planning my best friend’s wedding and my younger sister keeps telling me that she wants me to plan hers, which i’m on board with, but they’re both very laid back and i don’t think i’d be as involved if they were uptight. on the plus side, i can always call them out as bridezillas since they’re family. can’t do that to a regular client. lol. i’m with miss lime, i’d probably be best as a researcher. now that’s actually fun.

Yes, infact, very interested. I like the whole planning, coordinating, and little details that go into wedding planning. I’ve taken upon myself to help out in a friends upcoming wedding, so we’ll see how that goes. I think I want to start a career in this, but I don’t know where to start to be quiet honest. Anyone in the same boat?

I actually never thought about it until I stumbled upon Weddingbee. :-D I’m so addicted and I’m not even engaged. =P If anything, I think I’d want to work with invitations and such. Pretty stationery makes me happy. =)

I would love to be an event planner - and have done quite a few events now for my graduate school (unpaid slave labor - I mean volunteer - of course). Including a weekend with 6 different events for over 5000 people.

But since I am getting a PhD in engineering, I probably won’t become one. Maybe a day-of coordinator though for a side job? I love bringing all the elements together. But other people’s taste would probably drive me nuts.

Once my wedding is over, I never want to think about planning a wedding again! Not that I haven’t enjoyed this process, but its not something id like to do for either work or as a hobby.

That’s exactly what I did. After going through the process, which was fun for teh most part, I was so bummed at how many places upped the price once you mentioned the word “wedding”. Invitations especialy. Back when I started (2000) there weren’t as many DIY choices as there are today. So I started my own invitation biz and the part I enjoy the most? Helping couples find gorgeous invitations that reflect their style and personality without breaking the bank. It can be done! But don’t expect too many sales people to tell you that. :)

I’d love to do event planning, not necessarily just weddings! As stressed as I am about my wedding, I think when it wasn’t my family and putting tension on my relationships, I would enjoy planning a wedding a lot more. My dream career is a owning a bakery. Mostly cookies, because that’s what I’m best at, but if I could spend time learning techniques, cake baking and decorating would be awesome.

Oh man yes. It has often been the topic of conversation between me and some friends, what duties each of us would have. I have also been designing wedding invites for people for a couple of years now so I guess you can say I am actually involved.

Definitely. If I felt like giving up my nights and weekends after teaching junior high kids, I would. ;-)

My MOH just got engaged and I hang on hearing her every detail. Once I knew her colors, hopped on the bee and the knot and started doing some recon for her!

I think that there’s a lot of this. It’s a combo of great weddings and the great entreprenuerial dream. Who wouldn’t want to be self-employed and do what they love?

I mean, I love teaching and if there was a way to be self-employed…although my BM/teaching colleague and I joke about opening up our own charter school all the time. ;-)

I would have applied to be on the design team for MS Weddings magazine, but the offices are far from home so that was a no go. :) Other than that, I love to design invitations!

Definitely! In fact, it’s what I’m tentatively hoping to do :-) I’ve contacted a couple people about teaching seminars on wedding planning (not being a planner, but on planning their own weddings) and DIY, and I’m hoping to launch my own website within a year or so. :-D

No question asked! In fact, I am currently considering opening up a planning business - way too much experience to spread!

Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to decorate cakes. Thinking that this might not be a realistic career, I always told myself that when I retire I would be that little old lady in town that makes wedding cakes. I have recently decided that it might not be a bad side business to start off with so I’ve started taking some classes and I love it! I would really like some more information about how to get started in the wedding cake business if anyone has any ideas… : )

I’m with the camp that says no to a career in the wedding business. It was great fun to plan my own and even now, post wedding, there are so many ideas from sites such as WeddingBee that can be incorporated into the rest of my life. But the reality of startingone’s own business and dealing with drumming up clients is definitely not my cup of tea. I’ll pass, thank you. However I am more than willing to help out a friend or family member plan a wedding. Just can’t depend on it to pay the bills…would take the fun out of it all.

Yes, that is what I’m trying to do since I planned my own wedding this past June. I had so many people come up to me after the wedding saying, It was so beautiful and that I should plan professionally, I thought hmmm….

It’s something I alwasy wanted to do, so now I’m starting. My husband did the beginning stages of my website and I’m having business card printed up. In the meantime I am working with friends and work colleagues to get my name out there.

We’ll see how it unfolds…event design and planning are my love, so hopefully my plans will come to fruition!

That’s what I did and I would totally have to say it’s something that I would have thought twice about. But I love it! I started my own invitation business before I got married & finally pursued it after my wedding. I also had the chance to be involved in event coordination- which was good and bad. But I would definitely suggest it for those that love planning their weddings.

It’s fun to do research, but I think once I actually get married, I’ll be burnt out on it, and won’t want to do the research anymore…

i wouldn’t want to be a planner (too much stress) but i enjoy designing wedding albums for brides. it’s nice because the wedding’s already over, and at that point, brides are far more relaxed. plus i get to look at all of those beautiful pictures!
