Contest of the Day

November 17th, 2006 @ 12:58 pm by Contests

Thanks to everyone who entered the “Tell Us A Joke” Contest yesterday! Quite a few of the entries gave me a good chuckle so check them out for a Friday laugh! Congrats to Erika who won the favor samples with this joke:

Did you hear about the two antennas that got married?

The ceremony sucked but the ¢¢â€š¬…”reception¢¢â€š¬? was awesome!

Hardyharhar - so corny I love it. I had planned on selecting the 5th commenter because the 5th is Mr. Bee and my meetaversary/anniversary. Did I mention that I was corny? :D

Of course onward with our next contest! Today we’re giving away 3 PaperBride Tip Kits! These super awesome kits include 10 envelopes and a “cheat sheet” to help you figure out how much to tip each vendor.

To enter, tell us your “tip” for the secret to a happy and healthy relationship by commenting below. You have until this Sunday, 11:59 pm to enter. Good luck! :)

Here’s my tip: Love is about giving, not receiving. Keep this in mind and everything else will fall into place :-)

i don’t know if this is a “secret tip”…probably, pretty obvious, but i think spending quality time together. not so much how much time you spend, but how you spend it. now that FI and i are on totally different schedules, we really cherish the time we do spend together. it may just be taking the dog for a walk, but during our walk, we feel good, we talk about funny stories, we fantisize about winning the lottery…we just hang out. that my sound boring, but i think that is something that has really kept us going.

My Tip: Be a united front. Once you turn against each other, that’s when things weaken. You can make anything happen if you just work together!

Everything that gets brushed under the rug will eventually find its way out. Talk through things as they happen.

My tip: do something unexpected every once in a while to keep interest alive. Plan a romantic dinner or get-away (to keep it inexpensive, try to Priceline a nice hotel in your local metro area). Leave short notes in his car or on his computer screen in the morning. Just little things that make each of you feel renewed in your relationship.

I think being a couple and exploring what married life has to offer is wonderful, however a lot of times we get so wrapped up that we forget to give each other breathing room from time to time. At least to me, having space or the freedom to continue doing the things we enjoy seperately can only strengthen the relationship. That way you don’t risk loosing your individuality while being with the one you love.

Love, laughter, respect, honesty, open and often communication. That’s it!

I think open communication is the key to making anything work. Most of the times an argument stems from miscommunication!

Pray with each other and pray for each other.

Never go to sleep angry at each other. Sleeping it off is never the right answer for real issues that need to be hashed out.

Can’t remember where I read this–but a relationship is like two trees intertwined at the top. United, yes, but each with its own strong foundation.

To me, this means that it’s important not to”lose” yourself in the relationship and become defined ONLY by being his wife/girlfriend–maintaining your own sense of self is important to keeping your self-respect (and his respect for you!)

My FI and I have completely opposite personalities. He is very outgoing, simple-minded and lives by the moment. I, on the other hand, am more reserved, very complex minded and always have a need to plan things in detail. We have so much fun together but we also have our differences. I took the Myers Briggs personality test (he’s the extrovert and I’m the introvert) and it has really helped me understand our differences and how we can work together using our strengths and weaknesses to make our relationship work. We have now survived a 7- year long distance relationship! Hopefully only 2 more years and we will finally be together! :)

Don’t make each other your everything - both partners should have strong, fulfilling lives outside of the relationship, so that they can be strong in the relationship.

My relationship tip is: Do projects! Work together to do something fun! Projects are a great way to be creative together and work as a team…things as silly as building a sandcastle together at the beach to redecorating your kitchen to building a silkscreening press (we’re about to do this one next week). It’s also great grounds for relentless flirting!

Surprise each other. With words, actions, gestures, gifts…. that keeps a marriage alive, exciting and fun!

Always remember that you should be on the same team — putting your “teammate” first will ensure a respectful and healthy relationship.

Do something random with each other at least once a week - doesn’t have ot be anything huge if you don’t have the time or money - even going puddle jumping after a storm is great. You never need to stop having fun.
