Wedding Planning BLUES

November 17th, 2006 @ 8:30 am by Mrs. Peach

Do you ever feel like you’ve been fighting more with your fiance since you started wedding planning? I really love wedding planning, but with the stress and both of our busy schedules, we definitely haven’t been as patient and understanding with each other as we should be. What is the biggest reason we fight these days?

Football.

Yep. Hahaha. Ever since the beginning of football season, I’ve noticed an increase in our arguing. If Mr. Peach is not working, eating, or sleeping, he is sitting in front of his TV watching ESPN and whatever other channel that shows football. Sunday night, Monday night, Thursday night, and ALL of Saturday are usually reserved for both pro and especially college football. He is a huuuggggeeee fan of his alma mater’s football team: the Michigan Wolverines. Here are some examples during our wedding planning that show you his crazy devotion:

Scene 1:
Me: Honey, do you have a preference on what the wedding colors should be?
Mr. Peach: Hmmm, how about maize and blue? (their school colors)

Scene 2:
Me: Hey, what are you going to wear to our engagement photo shoot?
Mr. Peach: I was thinking I’d wear my Michigan jersey.

Scene 3:
Me: Out of [x,y,z] songs, which should we pick to be our song for the first dance?
Mr. Peach: I like all of them but¢¢â€š¬¦
Me: But what?
Mr. Peach: You know what song I’d really like?
Me: What? (getting all excited he has something)
Mr. Peach : How about the Michigan fight song!

Yep, he loves his school and football. So yeah, sometimes it gets to the point where it takes over his life and also some of our relationship (which is when the arguments occur). But I have to admit, he’s slowly converting me. I actually really enjoy watching some of the football games now!

So with that, I’ll end it here with a shout-out to my future hubs (especially since the biggest college game of the season is coming up this Saturday - Michigan vs. OSU)¢¢â€š¬¦
Honey, I love you! And Go BLUE!!

Go Bucks!!! (My fiance and I going to OSU right now!).

I am trying to incorporate scarlet and gray into our wedding, like I am wearing a scarlet and gray garter, and I am using our fight song somewhere.

Go Bucks!!

Shhh…. don’t tell Mr. Peach about the collegiate origins of our blue/gold color scheme :) And what’s so funny is that Mr. Lemon “offered” all of the above things to me as wedding concessions that he thought I’d like, but I only took him up on the first.

Yes definitely, we have been arguing more since wedding planning began. He’s usually pretty good about helping me make decisions its just those times when I feel overly consumed with my to do list. For example, his parents flew in from Boston to meet for the first time my mother so we had to prepare a big meal for 30+ people (his aunt and my sister and family). So we had to go furniture shopping and decorate the house since its practically empty and also go food shopping and prepare a nice dinner.

I would get so frustrated with him, I would get mean and make really blunt comments. I know he doesn’t really deserve it but sometimes my frustration level hits the boiling point. We usually don’t let arguements or disagreements last for more than one day. By the end of the day I calm down and he realizes how many things I have to do and so we’re good by the end of the night.

I think you really need to pick and choose your questions. My FI really doesn’t care about the color of the linens or the kind of flowers we’ll be using at the reception - he just wants me to quit being mean sometimes. hhaahaha. Love it.

Like you, we have been arguing more since we started the planning. And I totally understand about the football thing….my FI is the same way. Our biggest fights have really been about his lack of involvement. Call me crazy, but I want his opinion on a lot of the wedding stuff because I want it to be a day he will enjoy, as well. But he has been very latent in his opinions. I finally asked him about it and he said it was because he thought it was supposed to be all about the bride. Now, maybe some brides want that, but I really want it to be all about us. So, slowly but surely he is being more open in giving his opinion on the matters I ask him about.

I know what you mean. I literally wake up to sportscenter and go to bed to sportscenter. He is addicted to football. He gets so depressed when the end of the season is near.

P.S. Buckeyes Baby, Buckeyes!!!!!!

First of all- where are all the Michigan fans?!? (They boast the largest Alumni in the US)ahahaha~ well i’m not TOO offended bc I didn’t go to Michigan… but still! Gotta support my man! So yeah, I was tempted to delete all the “go OSU” comments, but I won’t let sports rivalry get in the way of my love towards weddingbee community! haha

Second- WORD to what Leslie said- that is EXACTLY how I (and Mr Peach) feel!

Lastly- GO Michigan!! ; )

Go Bucks!!

We, too, have had some blowouts about his lack of involvement. When the weekend rolls around, I want to knock out some wedding planning, and he just wants to watch football. Of course, Kentucky basketball is now officially underway, so I don’t see that changing once football is over :)

I have learned to pick my questions and my timing wisely.

Oh and p.s, I think we are going to have Buckeyes (the chocolate kind) at our wedding.

YES! my FI is just the same way. (except he went to Penn State) when we talked about our wedding colors, he kept trying to convince me to say yes to Penn State blue.

and the fights?? yeah, don’t even get me started. it’s football EVERY night. and then after the game is over, it’s sportscenter. and he didn’t even go to either schools, but you can bet, the man will be sitting on the couch watching the big game.

oh and miss peach, he’ll be rooting for michigan.

Hail! Hail! to Michigan
the leaders and best

Actually I couldn’t give a crap about football, but I did spend the first 18 yrs of my life in lovely Ann Arbor, so I gotta represent. After growing up in a family who’s weekends revolved around dad sitting in front of the tv watching football, finding a man who was not interested in sitting around watching football was a priority for me… and I found one, they DO exist, lol.

as a michigan alumna [class of '03] i HAVE to represent…GO BLUE! hail to the victors baby! hahaha. my bf is also a future michigan alum…gotta keep it in the collegiate family you know? lol. i’m the bigger michigan fan though but, alas, i will not be incorporating too much maize and blue into our scheme. unless i put it on a garter. hmm…how would that look with a yankees garter? lol.

i don’t really forsee too many problems with any planning for us [go ahead and laugh]. we’re planning on having two ceremonies and after he said that we weren’t really going to plan the second one [the family and friends one] i couldn’t have that. so i told him he could plan the first one [we've planned on getting married on our own] and i’ll plan the second one. he was fine with that.

in the interest of full disclosure, i couldn’t read all of the comments since all i saw was ‘that other team’s’ fans. lol. i did catch my fellow wolverine fans though. :-D

janet- i went to one michigan game. michigan-notre dame in 2003! it was crazy fun, but i was so tired bc everyone was standing for the entire game!

Tea- i think i’m going to try and make a michigan garter as a surprise for Mr. Peach. i like your michigan support, but why the yankees?!? haha- i’m a #1 Atlanta Braves fan, then #2 Boston Redsox fan (lived there for 6 years).

funny you should ask…i was born an oakland a’s fan [to my dad's joy]…cut ties a couple years after their ‘89 world series win and hopped on with my mom [who just liked the uniforms] on the yankees train in ‘92…before they were good. after 14 years of pinstripe stumping, my dad’s STILL trying to figure out where he went wrong with me. lol.

i might try to sneak in a michigan something somewhere on my wedding day. maybe make it like a where’s waldo sorta thing. i’d enjoy that very much.
