I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Cookie Favors

November 20th, 2006 @ 5:05 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

I have gone back and forth regarding favors for the wedding. At first it was chocolates from See’s candy, then it was foil wrapped leaves, and then it was a regular candy bar (not a bar of candy like Hershey’s, but a bar consisting of many candy types). Now, I have decided and I am sticking to it. At Sur la Table on Friday afternoon, I found a copper cookie cutter shaped like an acorn:

Since the acorn is not only part of our rustic fall theme, but I am also wearing a necklace with a small acorn dangling from it, it’s perfect. It’s about the size of my hand and so cute. When polled about the kind of cookie to make, my friends thought gingerbread would be good, no brown icing needed! I can just do the little cap with a bit of sheer icing, and let that be that! So I figure I’ll put the decorated cookies in a cellophane bag, and affix labels with our monogram and the guest’s name on it.

What do you think? Should we use this as a place card as well? Can you think of any other kind of cookie that would be good?

gingerbread would be good. there’s always sugar and shortbread cookies, though those would require frosting.

How about gingersnaps if you want a crispy cookie.

Brown sugar cookies would also work. I actually use a recipe for brown sugar cookies for my gingerbreadmen every year at christmas. They are sweet and the dough is easy to work with.

That’s adorable! Acorns and pinecones have prominent roles in our decorating (our inn is decorated with them anyway, so why not go with it?). Our monogram has an acorn in it.

Very cute idea!

I think a mocha cookie dipped in chocolate for the acorn cap would be yummy and pretty.

shortbread is very simple and pretty foolproof (butter, flour, sugar, pretty much) and you can just sprinkle large sugar crystals on top (no icing necessary, imo). shortbread is also fairly durable like gingerbread :@).

gingerbread sounds tasty, though!

KP, I LOVE snickerdoodles. They are my very favorite cookie ever!

Thanks, Holly, the dipping idea is great!! I think I will try various versions and post them to see what everyone thinks. I’m so mad I’m stuck here eating my freakin’ oreos. :( I want gingerbread!
