Dress Envy

November 22nd, 2006 @ 9:34 am by Mrs. Pearl

I have a dress from our last stint of wedding planning, but I don’t know if I want to keep it. I mean, I’m sure I’ve gained weight, so it’ll look like a monstrosity on me. But that’s easy enough to fix — hell, I lost weight in a month the first time to fit into it properly, so I can definitely do it again. But now I’m not sure if I want the same dress. Is it bad karma to keep the dress from my wedding that didn’t happen?

Another problem I have is that…well, I’ve got a lot of booty (and a lot of other things, too). Sample dresses don’t work for me and it’s hard for me to get an idea of what looks good on me. I’ve found dresses I think are pretty, but I’m scared of ordering them and then they look awful!

I am trying to justify getting another dress to myself and my fiance. Maybe if I donate my original dress to Brides Against Breast Cancer, I can justify the extra expense. Right now, I’ve been trying to decide between a Jasmine dress and an Alfred Sung dress.

Which one do you like better?

Oooo I like the Jasmine as well! I love the lace and also the ribbon. Does the ribbon come in different colors? I actually really like the ribbon color shown in the picture but I was just curious and if it was an option, whether or not you’re considering a different ribbon color.

i, too, vote jasmine. although i have a different body type than you, i know the pickup styles made me feel and look bulkier…more fabric, more tater ;). the only thing with the jasmine is it’s very “now.”

The Jasmine. Totally. I don’t like pick up skirts very much. And you can always get a sash in another color–I’ve seen them for sale on eBay for $30, and I know David’s Bridal sells them separately in many colors. I’m thinking doing that myself so I can choose the exact color I want, if I get a sash dress (which I probably will.)

Hi Pearl, I LOVE the Jasmine dress. But–if you don’t mind me asking–I am extremely curious about what happened with your first wedding. How far into the process were you? What made you call it off? A lot of those details with impact whether or not you could keep that gown as an option.

haha i’m the oddball. i love the first one, without the jacket. it actually resembles my dress but mine is in champagne and the ribbon is long and flowly in the back. :)

both are beautiful!!! as you are, i’m sure :)

and welcome to weddingbee! (sorry it’s late from me)

Jasmine gets my vote too. Especially if you’re concerned about cutting a trim figure on your wedding day. I think the Sung will add a bit more bulk to just those area you mentioned.

i think it depends on when your wedding date is. the jasmine dress seems more of a summery/late spring dress (the material) where as teh alfred sung seems heavier and thus more appropriate for cooler temps..

What do people usually do with their wedding gown after the big day? Just keep it in storage?

Wow, pretty overwhelming in the choice :)

I do have to say though that after I went and tried on a dress with pickups, they’re not unflattering as one might think. I know, I was surprised, too!

BTW, the wedding is July 2007, so yeah, it’s gonna be a warm one (particularly in SoCal).

The first dress was:

http://www.rkbridal.com/public_html/Christin%20Wu/christinafall2002b5153.jpg

It’s nice, but it’s also a bit on the heavy side — the material is thick and I don’t think I want something so warm. The two dresses above are made of more lightweight material (lace for Jasmine and a lighter weight silk for the AS).

Hi Miss Pearl! I’m an oddball too — I like the Alfred Sung. I surprised myself because I really like the Jasmine line overall. I agree with you that pickups can be very pretty on the right person. It really depends on your personality though — are you a “lace” type of gal? :)

Jasmine. I am with you, too, in that I’ve tried on dresses that were heavy lace or satin, and luckily my fav was one with a chiffon skirt!
