About Mrs. Pearl

Back when we started wedding planning, one thing that Mr. Pearl decided he wanted to be involved with is the cake. We both decided on buttercream icing because we’ve both had fondant that was yucky before. At our cake tasting, we had the regular buttercream and it was OK…but we wanted something a little different.

At the Festival of Brides bridal show, we saw a chocolate ganache cake and both loved it on the spot. True, chocolate covered cakes are untraditional, but we both love chocolate and, for the ‘Zilla inside, it matched our wedding colors better :).

Pictures of chocolate cakes are so hard to find…but these are some that have helped fuel our vision.

I’m totally with you on this! We had a ganache covered cake at our October wedding and it was sooo delicious. Ours was decorated with sugared autumn fruit. Inside was chocolate chip cake with layers of vanila buttercream and rasberry puree. (Guests actually told us it was the best wedding cake they’d ever had). We don’t have any of the photographer’s pics back yet but here’s a photo a friend snapped:

I think those are gorgeous and memorable.

Every time I see one I don’t know how people resist. I don’t even end up eating cake at probably half the weddings I go to (and I have been to six in recent history). If there was a chocolate monstrosity in front of me, I’d be on it! :-)

Here’s another chocolate wedding cake for you to gaze at. You should definitely go for a chocolate cake, if that’s what you want. You know it’ll be delicious.

From a fellow dark chocolate lover, go for it. I may do it, too, depending on the rest of my food and decor.

oh wow!!!! I absolutely love that cake! It’s 11pm here and now I’m craving chocolate.

If it’s what you want then absolutely go for it. Your guests will love you for it too ;) I especially like the dark chocolate.

Andrew & I have talked about a chocolate cake, too, because we both love it! Don’t know if it’ll be chocolate on the inside, the outside, or BOTH! :)

Nice selections. I like the combination of chocolate cake + fruits, rather than chocolate cake + flowers - seems to go better together. But that’s just my opinion.

There is a beautiful chocolate cake on the cover of the fall edition of Martha Stewart Weddings.
