Reader Buzz: Holidays

November 22nd, 2006 @ 4:02 pm by Reader Buzz

Mrs. Bee here.

Since it’s the day before Thanksgiving, I thought that we should have a reader buzz about the holidays.

I am a total holiday whore. I seriously love every single holiday! And since meeting Mr. Bee, holidays have become so much more fun because I have my own family to celebrate each one with now.

I love New Year’s because it’s the start of a fresh year full of possibility and resolutions I know I’ll never keep. I love Valentine’s Day because what’s wrong with having a day just to celebrate love? I love Independence Day fireworks and barbecues and camping trips. I love Halloween because it’s the day after my birthday, and Mr. Bee and I get to dress up in couple costumes. I love Thanksgiving because it’s all about family and food and food and food. (Have I ever told you about my philosophy that calories don’t count on holidays and vacations? ;)) And I love Christmas because I love Christmas trees, decorations, carols, giving gifts, and just being in the spirit of the holiday season.

I really do look forward to every holiday, and love each one for different reasons (among which includes not working). If I were to choose a favorite though, it would be between Halloween and Christmas. I’ve always loveloveloved Halloween, but since Christmas lasts a whole season, I think it wins out in the end.

So what’s your favorite holiday and why?

My favorite holiday is definitely Christmas. I have spent every Christmas up until this year exactly the same, with my family. We get up, have fresh cinnamon rolls for breakfast, put on Mannheim Steamroller in the background, let the youngest child pass out presents, and open presents in order from youngest to oldest. Then we go to my grandparents’ for lunch and more presents. I love being able to spend this time with my family. This year I will be spending Christmas with my FI’s family, a first for me, but I’m sure I will still enjoy every minute of it since they have made me a part of their family from the beginning of our relationship.

THANKSGIVING! food, friends, family, and my birthday is sometimes on Thanksgiving. It would be Christmas, but there is so much stress added with lots of family, getting presents, doing all the craft projects I have, etc.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE!

Definitely Christmas… it is the one holiday I know I will see the whole extended family in the same place at the same time in the afternoon. That morning it is just my parents, fi and grandfather opening gifts, listening to holiday music, and eating breakfast (the same things every year I think). I was never allowed downstairs until my parents were there cameras ready with my grandparents, now I have to call to let them know when I will be there exactly so they can be ready. It sounds silly but it is really sweet and such a big deal.

I’m absolutely a Christmas girl. :) I love the tradition that surround it. Each and every year, my family does the same thing, and it feels WONDERFUL to be boring. :)

Christmas!!! My family has a whole tradition that we’ve observed since I was a kid.

It’s usually my immediate family and my aunt’s immediate family who get together (sometimes more of their sisters’ families also come). We do Christmas Eve at my mom’s house — used to be fondue, but now my mom cooks. Afterwards, we watch a short “birth of Jesus” video set to Celine Dion’s “O Holy Night”. The family spends the night.

Christmas morning, we open presents first thing while listening to Christmas music. It’s mostly presents for me, my siblings, our SO’s, and my parents. Then we have breakfast — always strawberry waffles. My aunt’s family goes back to their house and we all take naps. Then my immediate family goes to my aunt’s house and we eat dinner, then my aunt’s family opens their presents.

Christmas, because of the spirit that seems to surround the season and CHRISTMAS MUSIC. Hands down. In fact–don’t tell–I started listening a couple weeks ago, right after Halloween. :-)

Then, I love the Fourth of July. Who can top fireworks!?!

It’s all about Christmas - My huge family gathers at my Mom’s house. All the cousins are so close, it’s great to see each other. We have a huge meal and exchange stories about old times…we almost ALWAYS break out the old videos from Christmas past - It’s the best time of year for me.

thanksgiving… i don’t have a family to cook for so as of now, it’s the only completely stress free holiday in the year. except, of course, figuring out how i’m going to brave traffic to get all the way home…

I love the time period from the beginning of October (although that’s not technically a season) until Christmas. I love Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, along with the leaves, snow, and everything else nature! I also love Easter, too. I just enjoy spending time with my loved ones, feeling festive, and celebrating my Lord. :)

I can never pick JUST ONE favorite. ;)
