Despite my love of shopping, I don’t really like Christmas shopping. It’s not that I don’t positively love to give gifts to people, I do. I love to see their faces when they get something they love, but would never have bought themselves. But while I pride myself on getting super cool items for people, it gets a little hard having to outdo yourself every year.
I spent 200 dollars in an hour today in a bookstore and online. While I spent that hour perusing Barnes and Noble with my dad, Mr. Kiwi was doing his Christmas shopping online. This brings to mind our present-buying playbook.
Mr. Kiwi and I have approached gift-buying in a simple way: I buy for my family, he buys for his. Although I usually pick out the gifts for both our families and he just forks over the cash for his, or has me give less rent than my usual share. Since we’ll be combining our accounts when we get married next November, this is the last year we’ll be doing that.
How does it work for you guys? Do you have a specific way of buying gifts and paying for them when it comes to your future in-laws?
