Beehive

November 27th, 2006 @ 3:21 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • Cindy is looking for a pillar candle holder from Red Envelope that Mrs. Ladybug once featured, but it’s no longer sold there.
  • ddalgi wants to know if you think it’s possible to plan a 250 person wedding in 5 months… or is she just kidding herself?
  • Miss Strawberry is looking for this bird lantern that NetterB used in her centerpieces. NetterB got hers for under $25 in a store that isn’t in Seattle, and online searches have only turned up pricey alternatives.
  • future mrs. c’s step aunt announced that her goal is to lose weight and wear fmc’s step-grandmother’s wedding dress to the wedding. They’re not close at all, and fmc thinks her step aunt just wants to show off her post-surgery figure. Is she being a bridezilla? How would you react?
  • Meg is having her ceremony/reception at her Protestant church and is wondering if it’s illegal to have a champagne toast/serve wine with dinner. Have you ever seen it done?
  • Miss S is visiting NYC this weekend and is looking for bridal salon recommendations with wide selections.
  • lixue wants to know how to make frosted bowls for her centerpieces.

I think 5 months is plenty of time to plan a wedding of any size. Ours was much smaller 30 people and I planned it in about 4 months with no problems. I think the key is the time of year you want to have it. If you want to have a Saturday wedding in July, that might be hard, but an off-day or off-season (say Feb-Apr) would be much easier because most wedding vendors don’t have a lot of weddings book for that time of year to begin with.

ddalgi - I think it’s very possible to plan a 250 person wedding in 5 mos. The main things you need to know now are: (1) is the money available (2)do you have a date i mind (3) is the venue/caterer available on your date (4)other vendors available on your date? If you have all 4 of those then it can easily be done. The key is being able to book everyone for the same date and having the money for deposits. If all can come together on your date then the rest is just details. I would also recommend sending save-the-dates since your wedding would only be 5 months away. 5 months goes by quickly and you would want to make sure your guests don’t make other plans.

I have a question too! :) I’m looking for the centerpices that netterb used in her bio. Specifically, the lantern with the bird on them. She got hers at a store we don’t have in Seattle and for very cheap–under $25. Everywhere I have looked online has some very pricey options. Help! :)

you can definitely do it in 5 months. we did it in 6, but for over a month we did absolutely nothing. just get the most important things out of the way first (a wedding dress if you’re going to order one), bm dresses can take up to 3+ months, your photographer, and so forth.

Definitely doable! :)

I have a question. At Thanksgiving dinner, my step-aunt announced that her goal is to lose enough weight by my wedding (October 2007) to wear my Step-Grandmother’s Wedding Dress!! It would be different if we were close, or even had a relationship at all, but we don’t even talk! It’s actually just a chance for her to show off her new figure (after surgery). This is MY day! Am I being too snotty about this (I seriosly think it’s ridiculous)? And how would any of the bee’s react? I just looked at her. I was, and still am, in shock. Thank you!

I have a question! I am a member at a Christian (Protestant, specifically) church and am planning on my wedding being held (ceremony AND reception) right at church. There’s a large area perfect for a reception. Anyway, is it illegal to serve a champagne toast/wine with dinner? Obviously I wouldn’t ask to have an open bar at church (hehe), but is there any law that prohibits serving a glass of wine or champagne? Has anyone been to a reception at a church and seen this done? Maybe I am way off bat here. Thanks in advance!

future mrs c —my goodness! That is one of the most outrageous things I’ve heard. maybe your step-aunt just isn’t aware, but it’s never appropriate to wear a wedding dress to someone else’s wedding! I’m afraid it won’t be easy, but you should sit her down and politely tell her that it’s not allowable–maybe you could offer to go shopping with her to find another dress that will fit her new-found figure :-)

Meg–I’m pretty sure it’s not truly illegal, but you’ll have to check with your church to see if they allow it. I’ve never seen it at church weddings I’ve attended, but then again I haven’t been to many church weddings ;-) Good luck, and let us know what you find out!

future mrs c: i can only hope you are kidding and that your step-aunt is kidding. sadly, i do not think this is the case.
are there other family members (ideally step-grandmother herself) on your side? is there any way to enlist their help in asking your step-aunt not to do this?

i never thought of enlisting my grandma. we aren’t that close either, but closer than i am to my aunt. one of my co-workers suggested i ask grandma to borrow the dress first and then keep it captive and tell her i couldn’t wear it cause it didn’t fit!

it was honestly one of those moments where i just sat with my mouth open. and THEN she actually said “oh, i thought that would make you cry since it’s so sweet! you love sweet things!” and i wanted to throw my roll at her!

miss s, for the biggest selection, you can’t beat kleinfelds. but i think the bridal atelier has the best service out of the places i visited (macys, kleinfeld, saks). if you could only do two, i’d recommend kleinfelds (just to say you went ;)) and bridal atelier. You should make appts now tho!

meg - i don’t think it’s illegal, but your church probably has specific guidelines pertaining to alcohol so you should talk to them. i must say though… that i’ve been to at least a dozen church weddings and none of them have served alcohol. i hope your church is more flexible! good luck!

does anybody know how to make frosted bowls? I’m not having floral centerpieces, and was wondering if anybody knows how to make these

lixue: start with regular shiny glass bowls. cover the outside (or inside) with armour-etch glass etching cream. (ventilated room, use gloves — glass etching cream burns skin!) wait ten minutes. rinse off etching cream or you can scrape off and reuse. wash glass and dry, and frosting will show up.

check craftster.org and search for glass etching.

Does anyone have a suggestion where to purchase cute crystal or glass broaches. I bought really cute chocolate bridesmaid dresses with champagne sashes, but would love a broach to put on the sash to add some style! Please let me know!
