Color Scheme

November 28th, 2006 @ 10:34 am by Mrs. Pearl

In some ways, I am such a girlie girl. One of those ways is that I love the color pink. Over the years, my wardrobe has expanded to include a lot more pink items than before. In fact, I think I probably own more pink than anything else now! When it came to the wedding, I thought for SURE I’d be using pink as one of the colors, but what else to make it not so girlie. I mean, I didn’t want to have a Julia Roberts circa “Steel Magnolias” moment where I tell people our colors are “Blush and Bashful,” essentially two different (but similar) shades of pink.

I thought I’d found a good compromise in pink and black. Pink can be girlie or edgy and black makes it not so English country garden and more contemporary.

Immediate kibbosh from Mr. Pearl.

It was fine until we found our reception site. The room craved either the softness of pink or the earthy quality of…well, earth tones, like champagne and brown. I came close with champagne and brown, but felt the wedding would look like a big patch of dirt.

That’s how we came up with pink and brown (and ivory). Or, as Mr. Pearl likes to call it, “more brown than pink.” The scheme really goes well in balancing, but standing up to, the delicacy of the reception room. We later added sage green as an accent color. I don’t know if we’ll do anything with the sage green, but it’s a handy color to have, just in case :).
