Favors

November 29th, 2006 @ 6:37 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

I love our favors–they’re so unusual, yet cute. They were one of the first things we figured out for the wedding, way back in June.

Since our wedding has a “starry night” theme, Mr. Blueberry came up with the idea of giving out glow-in-the-dark stars as favors. We realize that most people probably won’t use them–hopefully some will give the stars to their kids or cousins or something, but they should at least be momentarily entertaining :).

Plus, at about 50c/favor, you can’t argue with the price!

We bought 45 packs of glow-in-the-dark stars at Wal-Mart:

and divvied them up into clear favor boxes (About 15 stars per box), each box lined with a small square of blue tissue paper. We have yet to add the tags and ribbons, but we’ve made a prototype with the silver ribbon (included in the pack of favor boxes) and a tag printed with Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” and personal thanks from Mr. Blueberry and me.

Here’s an old picture (from June) showing the ribbon on the finished product. But since then we’ve changed the way we’re tying the ribbon, so the bow won’t be as outrageously huge. Plus, we’re going to add the tags.

I hope our favors aren’t *too* cheesy, and that our guests will think they’re fun :).

What are some unusual favors you’ve seen?

cute idea! My favorite favor was a sugar cookie (not unusual), but it came with a heart shaped cookie cutter and the bride’s sugar cookie recipe.

We had kazoos as favors at our wedding. I also thought it might be juvenile but some of my parents’ schmancy friends were dancing and kazoo’ing away! We did it as a tribute to a family friend of my husband’s who passed away last year, but they were really well received!

that is totally adorable. Honestly, most weddings I’ve attended involved candy or chocolate covered almonds in fake champagne glasses with a bit of tulle and a ribbon, Any favor that might actually serve a purose post-wedding is a bonus, as far as I am concerned. :-)

Fun and different. Probably one of the very few not-edible favors I would enjoy :)
