Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

I’m Marrying Goliath

November 29th, 2006 @ 6:04 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Okay, okay. Six foot two isn’t that tall. But compared to five foot zero me, it’s like another world. And I’m hoping I’m not shrinking since it seems like I am!

My problem is this: we are an unbalanced couple height-wise and with there being a whole 14 inches between us, I have been obsessing about shoes. Not that I have a dress or anything yet, ya know. :)

I am utterly in love with the Ella shoes at Blue Tux:

ella_satin_med.jpg

They are only 3 1/4 inches tall, and I was thinking more along the lines of 4 inches and up. Before people tell me that having shoes that tall on my wedding day will murder my feet, I will be wearing the tall shoes for the ceremony up through the first dance, and then taking them off in favor of flats. Since I’ll only be wearing these shoes for about an hour, I really don’t want to spend that much money on them, but I don’t want cheap shoes, either. :) I’m not going to spend hundreds of dollars for them, maybe one hundred at the most - and that’s still a lot to me.

So, how many of you gals are with taller-by-a-lot guys? How do you close the distance?

Miss Kiwi… instead of changing into flats, maybe you should consider something comfortable with more height. Otherwise, a 4 inch difference between heel heights will cause your hem to be either way too short (looks bad) or way too long (you’ll trip) at some point on your wedding day

Mrs Ant, I totally didn’t think about that. You are so smart! Maybe I’ll pick up some wedges, since I can jog in those!!

hi miss kiwi - I love those shoes. and i think you should get them if you love them.

There’s already a 14 inch difference between you and mr kiwi…. with the elle shoes you’ll be 5′ 3.25″… an extra 0.75 inch wouldn’t make a HUGE difference in the grand scheme of things, would it, if it meant getting shoes that you loved. :)

I’m 4′11 and my SO is 5′10. Not as drastic as yours… however! My aunt is 5′ 2 and my uncle is 6′10. :o I think when you have a huge height difference, a 4 inch heel isn’t going to make that much of a difference. Embrace it and go for a more comfortable heel that you can wear the entire night. :)

I’m 5′ 2″ and my fiance is 6′ 2″. My heels are 2.5″ and that’s fine by me. Anything taller and I would probably topple.

I agree with Amy’s post above. Find a heel height that’s comfy and just wear it all night instead of tripping on your dress. My mom is 5′, and her ex husband was 6′2ish, and the 4″ heels she wore on her wedding day did not make much of a difference.

Also, as much as I love Blue Tux shoes’ styles, I ordered that exact shoe in bronze and was sorely disappointed in the quality for the price. They were synthetic although advertized somewhere at that point as “leather,” not that comfy (I know heels aren’t supposed to be, but the edges were sharp and bit into my skin), and the blue sole was not as purty a blue as shown on their website (this is a nit-picky thing, I know). If they were half the price, I’d say go for it as the white satin might be more comfy. Customer service was great, though. I did have to pay for shipping both ways, so you may want to try to find them locally at a salon before ordering any.

We’re the same exact size as you guys (5′ & 6′2″). It’s odd I don’t realize the high difference only when we take side by side pics. Because of that I’m planning to do the same shoe swap idea as you. Hopefully I can find something tall but very comfortable! Our pics are either going to be sitting or me behind him on a platform to compensate for our vertical challenge. =)

i’m 5′2″ and my fiance is 6′2″ i’m getting 5 inch heels to make up for my shortness. i’m used to being in crazy heights… i’ll be posting about them shortly.

I’m 5′4″, he’s 6′2″… it’s not too ridiculous of a difference when I’m wearing normal shoes, so I think I’ll be fine medium heels.

I’m 5″4′ (and 3/4…I always add that on to make me seem taller hehe) and he’s 6″3′-6″4′

Basically I reach his shoulder and he towers over me..and I’m going for 3 1/2 heels..and measured my dress wearing shoes that high…

However, I agree with everyone else..it won’t make that much of a difference, and you’ll look beautiful no matter what height you are :D

If you’re interested in trying on Blue Tux shoes before buying, you can do so at the Jenny Yoo store on Charleville in Beverly Hills. I think they are a particularly good option for bridesmaid shoes.

Yeah, maybe that’s the great thing about being short, we are used to wearing heels for long periods of time! I wasn’t joking when I said I could jog in wedges, I did it once! I’ve been wearing heels at 4″ or higher since I was 16, and no problems so far!

Miss Lime, thanks SOOOOOO much for the honest opinion, I HATE shoes that cut into my feet. So, maybe I’ll just find some cool wedges that aren’t painful! I really appreciate it.

I bought and returned a pair of blue tux shoes because they were really uncomfortable.

Just saw a ton of cute Stuart Weitzmans on bluefly.com that are hugely marked down, and the “big apple” style has a platform sole so the 4.5″ heel would be bearable and make a dent in the gap b/w you and Mr. Kiwi. If you are looking to spend less I also saw many cute affordable styles at lovemyshoes.com.

I’m 5ft tall too. Big shoes are my mantra, but I don’t want my feet to fall off. Mrs. Ladybug is tiny too and she told me she got white platform flip flops to change into. I’m thinking I may do this too for the late-night part of the evening…

Hey you! I’m still waiting for my reply email.

And I’m thinking I win the “tallest fiance award”, my fiance standing 6′7”. I’m 5′5”, though, so the height difference is the same. Finding tall heels isn’t a problem, but finding tall, thick heels is (ceremony/reception are both outdoors).

Arg, I posted a response from my other computer but I don’t see it here! Ghosts in the machine, I guess. Bluefly.com has a ton of Stuart Weitzmans on sale, including one pair that has a little platform sole and a 4.5″ heel. That might minimize the distance between you and Mr. Kiwi. If you don’t want to spend that much check lovemyshoes.com I just got a coupon code, 25% off when you spend $90: BOYZ6 Good luck!

I live in the land of giants.
Dad is 6′6″.
Brother is 6′9″.
Fiance is 6′5″.

Best piece of advice.. if your reception venue has steps by the dance floor– utalize them! Jump up on a step while he stays down on level ground while dancing. Not terribly practical, but it does make for cute pictures!

Not that I’m getting married anytime soon, but understanding your situation (me- 4′9″; he- 6′1″). I’ve thought about what our wedding pictures would be like and I say the heck with 4 inch heels, if I must I’d rather stand on a crate for bridal party pics. Pictures are the only justification I can see in having such high heels and there are other ways to get around the height issues when taking photos. Like others have said, embrace it!

My fiance is 6′2″ and I’m 5′2″. I am incredibly used to being a foot shorter. My heels are 2.5″, but I can’t wear anything higher and I don’t mind if the photos show the height difference. I’m a wimp.

HannahEllen–your comment made me lol!

I’m 5′2″ and Mr. Blueberry is 5′11″so the difference isn’t too bad. But I’m still not wearing super tall heels for the wedding–I think mine are about 2″–because I don’t want to feel weirdly tall. Even though I wear heels all the time (3-4″, most days of the week), I got the idea in my head that I want to be somewhat close to my real height for the wedding. Don’t ask :-P

Wow! I’m so happy more people have the same problem as me. I’m 4′11 and my FH is 5′11”. Part of me wants to wear high heels, but I know I’ll be dancing the night away, so I think I’ll just go wtih a comfortable heeled shoe. When I look back at my pictures with my family and stuff, I don’t want to hear any smart *ss remarks about how I was so tall that day and I must have shrunk after the wedding! I also tend to lean a lot on my FH, and hide behind his arm…I think wearing really high heels will throw off the way we ‘fit’ and would feel really weird for me. I know…I’m a dork…
