Contest Update/Reader Buzz

November 30th, 2006 @ 5:14 pm by Contests

Thanks to everyone who entered the Share a Vendor/Website contest. The winner of the Oxo Salad Spinner is Jenn! Congrats! We’ll be shipping it out to you this week. :)

~~~
Last night I had planned on turning this into a contest, but once I started pulling everything out, I didn’t know what to do. See I have 6 binders, organized according to category, filled with pages I’ve cut out from wedding magazines and placed in page protectors since high school. 8O They have pages upon pages of inspiration on flowers, diy projects, cakes, favors, real weddings - a best of 100+ wedding magazines.
I thought it was time to give it all away to a weddingbee reader who would get more use out of it than I ever would because I don’t even look through them anymore. But then I started thinking about how much work I’d put into them, how a friend might want them, all the great stuff that was in there… and I started having doubts about giving them away because they do have sentimental value.
I guess it’s harder to let go because I’m in the wedding biz and who knows if I’ll ever need them one day. But I’m also on this “simplifying my life and getting rid of things I don’t use” kick right now, and besides styles and trends do change… I’m a bit torn but will I even miss them when they’re gone?
Do you have a wedding binder of ideas/inspiration? Do you think I should give my binders away to a weddingbee reader?
Mrs Bee, I think that while they would help another bride out, it could also be used as a reference for your job, so keep them.
And yes, I do have a binder. And a travel file container (box) with a handle. And an accordion file for transporting from the office to the home file box thing. It’s sad.
I think you should keep them!
I say keep them. It’s like holding on to your old love letters or projects from grade school…they hold so much sentimental value.
I have a binder with the hardcore page protectors, too! I can’t imagine giving mine away- I’m going to keep mine so that I can help my sisters and friends plan their weddings. There’s so many ideas & inspirations that aren’t all incorporated into your wedding that it’s a shame to give it away.
i think you should keep them too. in addition to being a wealth of industry related information, it also probably chronicles the evolution of your personal tastes and obsessions– which in the end is probably more valuable than the actual information. i don’t like to keep a lot of clutter around either, but i think there are some things you are absolutely allowed to be sentimental about (even if you don’t really look at them now)!
… We should have a contest where we all share our ideas & inspirational organization~
K says:
I’d say keep them. They could come in handy one day, definately…and just as a momento. So cute. :)
Wow! I wish I’d thought of starting one for weddings way back! I have binders upon binders full of everything else! I’d looove to get my hands on binders like yours cuz I know they’d be awesome, but I think you should definitely keep them for yourself! I’d never give away any of mine :p Too much useful information that you just might need to use as reference one day and you’ll be kicking yourself if you didn’t have them anymore!
Miss Bird of Paradise says:
i had a white (awe) trusty binder complete with page protectors and tabs. it was filled with pics to show vendors. i printed doubles of certain things so that the vendors had a copy too. and i had a hard file case too. this was filled with folders & tabs. i kept all info in this case. i defintely can’t get rid of these. i lived by them for too long!
WeezerMonkey says:
You’re in the biz. You should keep them. I can’t believe you’ve been collecting since high school! Whoa.
I have a binder. In fact, I’m sharing it with friends tonight and giving away a few pages myself.
Crysten says:
I say keep them…that’s a lot of history! And if you ever have a daughter and she gets married, think of how amazing it will be for her to go through mom’s books! What can I say, though…I’m pretty sentimental when it all comes down to it! :-)
miss violet says:
def. keep it. i don’t have a wedding binder. but i do have binder of recipes I collect online.
16.
Chastity says:
You should keep them. who knows you may need to look into them one day. And you won’t have the resources! I have binders as well. And frankly, all the time I put into them and the meaning behind it means alot.
Kris says:
I have a friend who has created one of these notebooks. It has no just her bridal mag favs but also those of her friends and family…we call it the Bible (I know, I know). It’s sentimental…keep it!
milka says:
If you don’t really look at them anymore, they are just taking up space. I’m sure everything that truly matters to you is chronicled in your actual wedding or online -
The parallel is I’m a recent bride and I have my big fat binder of wedding ideas. Currently, I like to look back and relive the path… but in 5 years, will I really be sentimental about the 10 venues we considered? Unlikely. I’m holding on to it for now but I expect that someday it will be replaced in my affections. :)
Say, “binders, we had good times. Now I release you to a new adventure with someone else and make room for my future.” :)
Nony Mouse says:
One of my binders will be tossed, but one has a pseudo-momento thing with it.
My cousin mailed me a book that she used for researching a few international traditions, and I fully intend on passing it on to the next person who needs it.
Katie says:
I have 2 binders worth of inspiration. I think you should keep them but I would love to see what you have tucked away in them. Why don’t you start an inspiration posting like the knottie bio of the week feature and post some of your finds - that way you can share all the great stuff without giving it all away.
21.
lindsay says:
i have one binder. but not much is in it - probably because i’d put every single page in it that i looked at. :( i’m always looking for inspiration.
i think that if you decide to give them away, the girl who gets ‘em will be mighty lucky. it’s a lot of work you put into it, but somebody just might get something out of it.
it could be like the sisterhood of the traveling bridal binders. :P
22.
Miss Raspberry says:
I use file folders, which are all labeled nicely and then put in a portable file folder box on wheels…
I admit, I am a little OCD!
I think you should keep them. A week after you give them away, you will want to reference something in one of them
23.
MsStarfish says:
I have 2 binders, and about 10 months til the wedding. I plan on storing it away. If you do decide to part with them, I would love to “borrow” them for ideas! I *heart* the idea of traveling bridal binders as lindsay suggested!!!!
24.
kp says:
Hey Mrs. Bee! :)
Although I would love to score even one of your precious binders, I would advise you to keep them.
You never know when/how you will need them..and they will always inspire you.
PLease keep them!~
25.
Julie says:
I don’t think “binder” is a strong enough word. :) I might have a slight addiction to wedding mags (I’ve nicknamed them “my porn”) and I have a little folder system for them. I even have an electronic version for all the stuff I find online.
26.
Miss Red says:
i say keep them! to satisfy your simplifying kick maybe you could combine them, and roll all the precious info into one (or two ;)) binders.
27.
heyjanety says:
have to agree with most of the girls here. KEEP THE BINDERS.
and as a side note, i don’t know you mrs. bee, but i heart you, just b/c you dreamed up this frickin’ awesome site. i’m a weddingbee addict. have to get my daily fix. my friend who works at xanga told me that she sees you every once in a while and i told her next time she does, to get your autograph. hahaha. j/k. =)
28.
Miss Emerald says:
SIX!?!?! Keep them!! I have ONE… and I already feel a bit goofy when I meet with a vendor and whip it out, hahaha.
29.
Jessica says:
I agree with most of the above posters. I would keep them, especially since you’re in the business. I’m trying to get rid of my big stack of wedding magazines, and part of me doesn’t want to see them go, especially since I’ve considered getting into the wedding industry myself. I narrowed it down and kept a few of my favorite issues though, so I’m not going completely cold turkey. I also really like a suggestion made above about scanning in some of your inspiration pages for everyone to share in the ideas. I would love to see what inspired the Queen Bee!
