Light Show Dilemma - To Have Or Not To Have?

November 30th, 2006 @ 7:03 pm by Mrs. Peach

Alrighty folks… I need your opinions!

The DJ I’m considering offers a motorized light show for an additional $75 with his services. Have any of you been to a wedding where they had a lightshow along with the music? What did you think?

My initial thoughts: could look cool, maybe it will really liven up the dance floor? But on the other hand it could look tacky - maybe a little too prom-y or club-ish??

What do you think about having a light show?

I don’t know…I voted to use the $75 for something else. A light show is bordering on cheesy for me…

But everyone’s different!

If you’re having a downtown loft or other urban venue, it could work. Especially if yours is a dancing crowd. Depends on the light show, too.

depends on the actual lightshow.. a good one can really set the mood.

I would want to see a demo before I decided on a light show b/c if not done right, it can look a little “promy” or like a club.

IMO, a $75 light show will end up looking tacky. However, a really good one would totally be worth that and more. I suggest asking to visit an event where he uses it.

I went to a wedding where there was one and a bunch of us got headaches.I would go against it.

my dj also offers a light show, synced with the music. we decided against it because the display itself looked tacky (a bunch of lights clustered on an ugly black stand).

the dj also offers a complimentary “light show” which consists of a bubble tower parked in front of the music equipment. we asked them not to bring that.

i think it would be fun only to use after dinner and the cake - it could give it more of a club feeling and be fun!!

I briefly debated this too… but it doesnt seem worth the $150 our DJ is charging… glad to hear alot of ppl agree with me! =)
