We got married at the gardens of Catlin creek and they used a real mailbox for their card box. Plus, a wheelbarrow for any other gifts. It was VERY very cute. Everyone thought it was our idea.

Not my taste, but a nice idea.

However, I would caution brides who are considering this because such a box is far too easy for thieves to access. I’ve heard too many horror stories about wedding gift money being stolen. If you have a card box, it’s preferable that it has only a small slot large enough for cards and that it is not easily accessible to any prying hands. Further, make sure you have an attendant with your box. Ideally, after your cocktail hour, you want to lock the box away in someone’s car, where it’ll be safe.

I don’t really like the painting on those, but the mailbox idea is cute.
WeezerMonkey has a good point, I didn’t even think about someone trying to steal stuff. It reminded me that a couple was arrested around here about 5 years ago for sneaking into parties and stealing the gifts.

weezermonkey - great word of warning. i didn’t even think of that. it’s horrible to think that someone would do that, but better safe than sorry. although these designs may not interest everyone, the idea of using a mailbox is nice.

Mrs. G,

hope you don’t mind me switching subjects, but my fiancee and I are thinking of getting married at Catlin Gardens and Iwas wondering what it was like — food, staff, etc. If anyone else has been to an event there, pls. comment also

thx

Josh - I’m not sure if you are asking the question to me, but I have never been to Catlin Gardens. You can however post this question in the weddingbee forums. Best of luck!
