Thanks to everyone who entered and voted on the Best Sandwich Recipe contest! Readers chose marclovesme’s scrumptious Brie Mustard Spinach with Apple Slices sandwich recipe as the winner. Congrats! We’ll be sending your Le Creuset Whistling Kettle out to you this week.
And now it’s time for yet another contest! Today’s prize is Oxo’s Salad Spinner - a super popular product that enables you to wash and dry your leafy greens. No more soggy salad ever again!

To enter this contest, share a link to a vendor you love or a website you’ve found particularly helpful during the wedding planning process. Maybe we can all discover a great new resource. You can enter as many times as you want until 12:00 pm tomorrow when we’ll randomly select a winner. Good luck! ![]()

A client I’m working with is looking for a calligrapher who does beautiful work. (Miss Orange did a great post on calligraphy awhile back.) But because her invitations will be mailed in a box, we need someone who can do the address and return address on a 3″x7″ piece of paper and still make it look nice. She recently came across Reaves Engraving.

[X] Ceremony site: St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Church (Pasadena, California)
Mr. Pearl and I have known pretty much forever that we’d be married in this church. It has been Mr. Pearl’s church since he was a child — he was even an altar boy here! We were supposed to be married by his childhood priest, but unfortunately Fr. Mylonas passed away from a battle with cancer a couple of weeks ago. They have a new priest now whom I haven’t met (Fr. Stratos). We have heard that this priest is a little more liberal than the previous, so perhaps Fr. Stratos will be more accommodating and understanding of our interracial, inter-Christian marriage.

After a lot of clamor for a Chicago bride, we’re happy to announce Miss Emerald!
The very talented Miss Plumeria (who’s a graphic designer when she’s not planning her wedding or writing on weddingbee ;)) is working on Miss Emerald’s character right now. But I was excited about our new addition so I had to share!

Fiance’s Age: 26
Fiance’s Occupation: Paralegal

About Me: I am so thrilled to be the first Chicago weddingbee!! I have been reading weddingbee from the days when Mrs. Bee was still a Miss, and am excited to share my wedding planning journey with you all for the next 9 months or so. I have been dreaming about my wedding forever, and flipping through bridal magazines since high school, so I am in my element! I am calling our theme “Vintage Inspired French/Asian Fusion.” Mr. Emerald is very involved in the planning process, but of course he generally defers to me cuz I have a strong opinion of how I want everything to be :).
Looking for jewelry for your bridal babes? How about something simple that won’t break the bank?
I love these faux pearl necklaces with interchangeable ribbon. You can match them to the bridesmaid dresses perfectly! I hunted down similar necklaces on ebay for less than $15–what a steal!

Hi,
I was thrilled to find your site! My sister just got engaged and I’m sure checking your site will be come a daily ritual as she starts her planning. I would love to give my sister a wedding planner as a gift to help start organizing her wedding. I have only one friend who got married so don’t know much about the planning process.
When I looked at amazon.com and went to Barnes and Noble I found many interesting wedding books and organizers. I think I am most interested in getting her a wedding planning organizer that is a binder, so she can easily add her own pages to it. Do you think an organizer like that is helpful? Do you know brides who used them? Do you have any suggestions for which organizers are most useful? I hope you will be able to help me help my sister get started with her wedding planning! Thanks for your advice.

After much searching, dreaming, and drooling over photographers (their work, anyhow :-P) near and far, we finally signed a contract and have a great photographer booked - Vanessa Gavalya.
She’s relatively new to the Dallas area, but does amazing editorial-style, beauty magazine-type photography. She is also very sweet and easy-going, which is also important when looking for a wedding photographer - someone who you get along with!
Check out some of her work! (you really have to go to her website to see the quality of her pictures….)

I’m baaaaack! I’m back! I’m back! After 3 weeks of visiting family across the U.S, I have never been so happy to breathe in the polluted New York air. Even the honking, car alarms, and sirens couldn’t lessen my joyful exuberance as I rested my weary head on my own pillow last night.
I have a million and one things to blog about since half of my trip involved speed wedding planning (a very tiring, but productive process). But… I am swamped with work because I am leaving again to go to a conference (unfair, I just got here!). I will try to slide in a few blogs while I work though — just wanted to say a quick hi to all the readers!
Wow–less than 6 months to go!
I didn’t accomplish too much last month, but I haven’t done too badly this month! We hired our officiant, plugged along on my DIY and made decisions about decorations and food for the reception. We’ve bought my wedding ring, I’ve learned about one of my showers, figured out what to do with the cats for the duration of wedding festivites and, dare I say, have purchased nearly everything except the food! Yay! ![]()
I’m going to be super busy with finals and whatnot, these next few weeks, so my goals for the 5-month mark are pretty modest: I’d like to *finally* get our engagement pics ordered and submit our photos to the newspaper(s), figure out what we’ll do for our MOH and BM gifts, and finish putting together the FG and RB “goody bags.” I’m also going to friggin’ finally finish those luminaries! And make serious progress on the 80 gazillion tisuse paper flowers I have to make.
Oh wait…looks like my goals aren’t that modest after all. ![]()
A couple of months back Mr. Violet and I were shopping at Costco. It’s a great place to buy items in bulk, but I absolutely hate the long lines. Anyway, the last time we were there, we snagged 2 $50 Spa Finder gift certificates for $79.99 - I saved $20. Not bad eh? In fact, I asked Mr. Violet to pick up 2 more for me because I booked myself a facial and massage next week using Spa Finder, which allows you to choose from most spas in the US.
These certificates make great gifts - I gave one as a bridal shower gift once (pre-Costco
), and the bride-to-be was delighted.
For those hardcore UCLA Bruin fans out there like me, I just found out there are UCLA stamps!! They are licensed Photo Stamps (similar to the ones that a lot of brides and grooms get personalized with their visages), and a portion of the proceeds from the stamp sales goes back to UCLA.

I just learned about bouquet preservation. Who knew?! I certainly had no idea. I thought that once your wedding day was over, you said “bye-bye” to your flowers. But nooooo! You can preserve them for a lifetime by freeze drying them! I’m uber excited.
Infinity bouquets is just one such site that provides bouquet preservation. You can place your bouquet, your garter, a sample invitation, with a few photos in a shadow box to really capture the day. This would make a great gift as well!

Updated with more descriptions and pics!

Miss. Hibiscus’ entry about sports garters made me think about mine. While we probably won’t have a garter toss, a sports garter seems like a nice surprise for Mr. Peach after the wedding is over. I went to the website and found the Michigan one:

I really liked it, but I just couldn’t swallow the price ($34.95!!). So I set out to make my own! I went to A.C. Moore to purchase my materials (lace, yellow ribbon, blue ribbon, elastic) for a whopping grand total of $3.95!!
