Beehive

December 1st, 2006 @ 2:27 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • karen is choosing a photographer and wants to know how much you spent, # of pictures they took, how long, and whether proofs/albums were included.
  • miss s is looking for Manhattan bridal stores that have a great selection but don’t require an appointment as she is visiting this weekend.
  • TXGirlie06 is looking for a tailor who can make a Kwa set and is willing to travel to NYC as her local and San Francisco sources did not work out.
  • Kathy wants to know what type of invitation print you are using:

thanks so much for reminding me of that lucy! :) but miss s, it’s going to be hard to go anywhere without an appt - all the big places require one.

kathy: we were set on flat printing. then fi recieved a wedding invite in the mail with thermography, and now he is all about thermography! i thought he didn’t care, and now he is insisting on thermography!

karen: we will spend $4K on 10 hours of pictures with two photogs taking about 2K pictures; we will also get all proofs (in the form of 4×6s), rights and one album.

karen, we paid 4500, not including albums. we got around 1200-1300 proofs which was a lot more than estimated, we got to keep the negatives, it was for 8 hours, but i paid a couple hundred extra for her to stay a little longer at the reception (she must have been there pretty late because i have pics of the conga line ;)).

kathy we used thermography but way overpaid and would def go with letterpress(could have done it cheaper than the thermography).

karen: we are paying almost $3K, not including albums. that’s for 2 photographers, proofs, cd with everything on it, 500-800+ proofs. 11 hours i think is the limit for him and his 2nd photographer.

miss s: RK Bridal

kathy: i went letterpress with parklife press. invite, rsvp postcard and envelopes were about $700 or so. i LOVE letterpress and so, it was worth it.

For photography we’re paying $1500 for a photographer for the entire day, a 4×6 finished copy of all photos taken (~600-700), cd with everything on it, rights to make our own prints, and 2 kolo albums. The cost also includes her coming from 2.5 hours away, coming to the rehearsal dinner to meet everyone prior to the wedding, and her hotel accomodations for that evening.

Sometimes it’s not so bad being in the middle of nowhere ;)

Karen… we payed $1,000 (the package was reguraly $1,200, but we got $200 off because we are friends of the photographers!).

This included a proof book, an album with 20 of our favorite shots, a CD with smaller resolution pictures on it, an engagement picture session, a signature print from our engagement session and an assortment of enlargements and prints. We had two photographers all day, plus they shot the rehersal and rehersal dinner. They did a great job and I should have the pictures from our wedding posted on my website by early next week.

Both our photographers are right out of photography school and are new in the business. I would suggest checking into students or recent photography graduates for anyone with a smaller budget, because they are usually inexpensive but have a fesh take on photography!!

Karen–we’re paying $1400 (that’s a discount) for 6 hours with a *very* talented photog. (you can get a lot more for your $$ in the south or in the midwest than you can on the coasts). That includes full rights to all the pics, a CD with high-quality digital images of all 1000+ wedding pics, a DVD with montage, and a website for our friends and family to access.

And also…I’m surprised so many of us are home printing our invites! Way to go for us DIY’ers! :-D

karen–we’re paying 10k for eight hours of photography, digital negatives, a day-after-shoot on the beach and local markets, three nights hotel and round trip plane tickets for two photographers to shoot our mexico wedding.

miss s–rk bridal. but like the others have mentioned, the nicer places like vera, monique, mark ingram, etc, will require an appointment. walk-ins are much easier during the week.

Hello Weddingbee,

A while back Miss Spider wrote about her honeymoon at The Palms at Turks and Caicos. FI and I are contemplating staying at the same resort, but we’d like to know more information about their food prices. Just want to make sure that we can afford the trip. Thx.

Thanks everyone for responding to the printing poll. I am surprised at the % doing home printing. I am not sure what flat printing is unless it is something like laser printing at a print shop??

So do you think if we DIY the invites and make them stunning enough anyone would really scoff at the home or flat printing???? Apparently, from the % we are etiquette rebels! Yeh!

I don’t know if I’m too late, but I’ve got a table dillemma! We are using a restaurant for our reception, and they are on the smaller side. They have an open floor plan, so we can do seating however we want. What kind of table arrangement do you think would work the best: a few very long tables ( ———- ), serpentine tables, or rows of shorter tables ( I I I I )? Thanks!

We are paying just under $1000 for our photographer. It includes an engagement shoot (or $40 photo credit), 3 locations, all day shooting, 200 proofs (she’s a film photographer), and $150 photo credit. For $400 more we could have had an album, but my mom is a pro photographer, so she and I are going to put together an album with proofs and prints we’ll order from the photographer. I concur with Miss Blueberry when she said you can get lots more for your money in the Midwest!

kathy - flat printing is exactly what you think it is. diy is not easy, but they can produce beautiful results…. i’m sure the readers who voted that they’re doing home printing will all agree! :)
