Christmas Cards

December 1st, 2006 @ 11:58 am by Mrs. Blueberry

As a sign of our unity as a couple and our infinite grownup-ness, Mr. Blueberry and I will be sending out Christmas cards for the first time! This involves the ceremonial removing of “& Miss Blueberry” and “& Mr. Blueberry” from our respective parents’ cards, and mailing out ones of our own.

Me being me, I had to DIY. So last weekend my mom and I went to Michaels for two value-packs of folded cards (25 cards and envelopes for $3.99), some Christmas-y scrapbooking paper, and a spool of very narrow, sheer red ribbon. Using Mom’s scrapbooking paper cutter, I trimmed the scrapbook paper to several 2″x3″ pieces and glued one onto the front of each folded card. Then I cut a 2″ and a 3″ length of ribbon and stuck them crossways across the scrapbooking paper. Finally, I cut more ribbon and tied a small and simple bow. I attached that at the top of the “package” and voila…a semi-3D picture of a present! Using gold ink I stamped “Merry Christmas” at the top of each card and a Christmas tree on the back of each envelope.

Then I stamped some little red snowflakes on the back of each card and wrote “made by Miss Bluberry, under the supervision of Mr. Blueberry.”

Inside the cards I wrote short personal messages (in green ink), we both signed, and stuck ‘em in the mail! It just took me a couple hours overall to do all this, and while they’re not perfect and certainly aren’t fancy, I think they’re cute enough :).

Are you sending out Christmas cards? Are you doing it alone, or with your SO/fiance/hubby?

Since we moved in together two years ago, we’ve been sending out “personalized x-mas cards” with With Love from,

Mr. Kiwi and Miss Kiwi

I told him this year that this will be the last year we have to word it this way, because next year we’ll be “The Kiwis” !!! Can’t wait! When we did them manually, I’d write My name first for my family and his name first with his family. Yikes. A lot of work there.

This is our first Christmas as a married couple. We’re getting pics at Picture People this weekend with our dog and making it into Christmas postcards. I wanted to DIY-it too, but I also wanted my friends to see our little “family” together. So the picture postcards won out.

We’ve been living together since 2002–so since having the same return address we’ve been sending out Holiday cards since then.
And even with art school background, I just like to buy my cards.
Much easier that way.

We sent out joint christmas cards last year, but it was awkward with the different last names and family members on each side that we hadn’t met yet…this is the first christmas that it’ll be “Mr & Mrs”, so that’s kind of cool. Maybe that’s why i got a bug to make my own cards this year…I did SEVERAL layouts and mockups over Thanksgiving, and I want to make them 3-D as well (using foam squares to elevate certain elements.) DH probably won’t help with the work unless I get frustrated with it; but he has been providing good feedback on the designs…especially by picking the font when I couldn’t narrow it down to less than 5! LOL!

Yes! Christmas is on it’s way. Preparing gifts and greeting cards is my favorite thing, because it is a perfect way to make your friends and family feel happy. By the way, at http://www.huliq.com/284/snowglobe-cards-launches-birth-thank-you-and-wedding-themes you can find a great source for online greeting cards.

I really really want to do this! But my fi and I don’t live together and if we put a return address, our conservative relatives will be a little outraged!

What to do!?

Not another Christmas card.
At http://www.christmasecheer.com you can send a personalized message or Christmas song to a loved one’s phone. It is free and only takes a minute to do.
