St. Lucia Minimoon

December 1st, 2006 @ 12:24 pm by Mrs. Ant

This is how we spent most of our mini-Honeymoon in St. Lucia…

Our villa had a great view of the Petit Piton and Caribbean ocean.. It faced west so we enjoyed some spectacular sunsets!

Best of all, our villa was very secluded and had complete privacy. Which meant lots of romping around naked and no tan lines… among other things.. winky.gif This is me skinny dipping in our private pool.

Mr. Ant and I went horseback riding..

And visited the Sulphur Springs (the “drive in Volcano”)

And traveled to all the different towns and villages. (Left: Soufriere, Right: Castries)

And enjoyed the decently yummy local Creole food.
(pumpkin soup, curried seafood roti, stewed chicken, stewed lamb)

Alas, despite all that St. Lucia had to offer, we got pretty bored by the end of our stay and really missed the hustle and bustle of NYC! bummed.gif When did I become such a New Yorker?!

Don’t get me wrong. Our minimoon really was paradise and we enjoyed spending time with each other… (insert mushy feelings here) … but I guess we’re just too young and adventurous right now to truly appreciate pure relaxation and the art of doing nothing.

Minimoon Reviews

St. Lucia: The island is strikingly unspoiled and beautiful. It’s not nearly as commercialized as the more popular Caribbean islands. Some of the unique attractions include the Pitons, the Sulphur Springs, and black sand beaches. The local Creole food is good, but there’s not much variety. Additionally, the local people are not nearly as friendly to tourists as Jamaicans or Dominicans. They were civil towards tourists, but we felt an undertone of resentment. After spending a week in St. Lucia, we don’t think we’ll be returning unless 1. we start scuba diving (St. Lucia has some spectacular dive sites) or 2. we have kids and really want to get away from it all!

Stonefield Estate Villas: We stayed in villa Frangipani, which offered complete privacy, an open air shower, a large private pool, and amazing views. The Mango Tree restaurant at the estate offers great breakfasts, but lackluster dinners. The massage services and excursions they offered were fine, but not great. Overall, the place is very well maintained and we were extremely pleased with our particular villa! (Note: Not all the villas offer complete privacy. And the remote corners of our own villa could be viewed from above.)

Mrs BOP, You picked some great resorts to stay at. I’ve heard wonderful things about both! We actually had a couple meals at Ladera.. the grounds and the views are gorgeous!! But the food didn’t quite live up to the hype.. Maybe we’re spoiled by NYC. And didn’t you think the lobster prices on the island were outrageous?! Anyway.. can’t wait to hear about your trip!

Miss Bird of Paradise says:

well, let’s just say we prefered the meals at ladera over ti kaye. and yes the lobster was stupid expensive, and not on the all-inculsive meal plan. what’s up with that?!

Love the videos Mrs. Ant! Stonefield Estates was built by the same owner as Ti Kaye, I believe. Their cottages are remarkably similar. And we had the most delightful dinners at Ti Kaye during our entire stay but thought our meal at Ladera was only so-so. I think theses things depend on the night(s) you are there and your taste buds. :) St. Lucia is gorgeous, isn’t it?

Thanks for your review Mrs. Ant. I always wanted to go to St. Lucia but was always concerned that there wouldn’t be enough activities to do. I guess that’s the case.. Any other island recommendations? How was Jamaica compared to St. Lucia?

[...] I blogged about our minimoon in St. Lucia, but never blogged about our honeymoon in Japan because it seemed like an unusual destination. [...]
