Beehive

December 4th, 2006 @ 2:29 pm by Beehive

In today’s beehive:

  • CBeth is having her reception at a small restaurant and they have an open floor plan. Which configuration do you think will work best - a few very long tables, serpentine tables, or rows of shorter tables (I I I I)?
  • Shortiejo is helping her friend design “Will You Be my Bridesmaid Cards” but doesn’t know what to write inside. Any suggestions?

hi weddingbee,
I’m helping my friend design some “will you be my bridesmaid” cards, but I don’t know what is supposed to be written on the inside of the card.

shortiejo:

You can say whatever you’d like! Hopefully these are girls you’re already really close to, and know you very well. You could do a simple “Will you be my bridesmaid” with instructions to call you and talk (this can be fun if inviting them to be your bridesmaid is your way of telling them there will be a wedding). Or you could go old-school (middle school) with “Will you be my bridesmaid? Check one: Yes, no, maybe”. Whatever fits in with your friend’s style should be fine. But there’s really no requirement for extensive details. Of course, a little handwritten note is always special and appreciated :-)

CBeth, I would suggest anything BUT classroom style. Not a good configuration for flow IMO. Any other way should be fine though, U shaped, or long banquet would be my choice.

Hi Wedding Bees,

First, thanks for the suggestions I received after my last beehive post regarding places to shop for bridesmaids dresses. I found a great dress at RK Bridal.

Now I am trying to decide where to order the dresses (my girls will take care of their alterations in their own hometowns). I was wondering if anyone would share their experiences ordering through RK and also Netbride. Anything appreciated!

cbeth: can you have shorter tables, but setup in a staggered pattern rather than a classroom pattern? i think longer tables or serpentine tables would make it difficult for people to get up to talk to other tables, go to the bathroom, or get drinks. shorter tables in a u-shape might also be nice.

Hello! I’ve been trying to check old messages for any “updated” comments on insolia’s inserts. I’m a VANS/UGGS/FLIPFLOPS kind of gal and any heel AT ALL would make me feel like I’m walking on stilts! However, the bridal shop (that I ordered my dress from) has instructed me to come back to their shop in March with around 3″ heels so that the dress won’t drag. I know where I can find 3″ heels of course but I have no clue what I can do to make sure my feet/ankles/knees don’t turn purple on my wedding day. I’ve heard of brides changing shoes after the ceremony but what would I change into? 3″ flip flops? =( Anyhoo.. my questions: 1. Do those insolia inserts help? 2. If not, is there any other product you’ve tried that does help? 3. Any recommendations on what types of shoes I should wear since ME + HEELS = NOT FRIENDS Eek.. this is a long comment. =\

Monkee…you could always check out dance shoes. They’re designed to be comfortable and stable. Esp. since you’re not used to wearing heels, they should be perfect :-)

And of course, practice practice, practice. I wear my wedding shoes all the time around the house (just be sure to keep them clean!) to break them in.

Oh, I should add: I don’t mean like ballet slippers, but the heeled dance shoes that are for ballroom or salsa dancing. Many of them come in white or ivory.

Hi Mrs. Bee -

My bridesmaids are in periwinkle and I can’t decide a compliment color. Any thoughts?

Also, the fiance and I were trying to think up favors - we’d like them to be less than $2 per person (since we’re having around 300 guests) but unique as well. The only problem is neither of us have specific interests. Help? Please?!

Thanks!!!

VivaLaMonkee -

YES! Insolia’s rock - provided that you have the right size. You sound like my twin as far as shoes go (preferring flips to heels). My Fi actually did some sales for Insolia over the past few years as they were emerging. They were developped by a genius from MIT. We we first started dating, the FI brought home a box full for me to share with friends, and I can now say that I swear by em and have them in almost every pair of shoes. Like I said, you need to make sure that you have the right size, so I recommend buying 1 or each to experiment. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions about them - while FI no longer works for them in any matter (so yes we are unbiased), I know quite a bit about this product as I am a closeted shoe-a-holic.

VivaLaMonkee- i bought TIP TOES by FOOT PETALS and loved them. i tried the insolias but found them to be uncomfortable. the tip toes made the balls of your feet more padded but not so much that they make your shoes too tight, i hate that. that brand makes other cushion options too. good luck.

i used insolias in my wedding shoes and also had simple footbed padding. i dont know if it was the shoes, the insolias or pad, or combo of all, but i wore 3.25″ heels from 2:30pm to 12:45am and danced a lot. While i love heels and have lots, my feel always hurt. Havent had a chance to try them in other shoes but i say it’s worth it.

Favor idea: this might sound crazy, but I think we’re doing little bottles of Gatorade (they’re called Gatorade All-Stars) for our wedding favors. You could cover up the normal label with your own label (or not — we’re not going to b/c I’m lazy). We’re attaching a tag with something to the effect of “get ready to dance up a storm!”

A bit offbeat, I know, but you can’t beat the price (get ‘em online or at Sam’s Club/Costco for a big discount) and the best part is, Gatorade pretty much comes in enough colors to coordinate with any wedding!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies…for some reason I never saw that they put this beehive up and I reposted my question. I think we’re going to go with long banquet style, but we might break it up into two longer ones with a space between so it’s easier on the flow. Thanks again!
