About Mrs. Emerald

My Favorite Girls

December 4th, 2006 @ 12:06 pm by Mrs. Emerald

I have 5 bridesmaids…

M - My 15 year old sister, aka my Maid of Honor
E - My longtime college friend, aka my Matron of Honor (I was her MOH 2 yrs ago)
J - Roommate and longtime college friend
S - 3 time college roomie too
B - My FI’s older sister (I was her MOH in her recent wedding)

I’ve been trying to decide what I want them to wear. Initially I liked the whole idea of letting them pick their own style dress from the same designer in the same color. I’ve already settled on the Jasmine brand, which has 2 lines, Belsoie and B2. But now I’m leaning towards them all wearing the same dress. Last weekend I had my girls M and B try on this dress, and I thought it was sooo purty! I actually love this whole uniform “look” of the bridesmaids below. Such casual, breezy elegance!!

Oh yea, and it would be in this Berry color. The actual fabric swatch is darker than it shows on my screen…

Are you having your bridesmaids wear uniform dresses or letting them choose their own styles?

Oh I love that dress! I want my BM’s to wear that dress too but I’m not getting married till April 2008 - I hope they will still have them next year. Do you mind telling me how much they cost? Thanks!

Hi Erika,
MSRP is $155 (SO CHEAP!!) but I got a quote for $122 from RKBridal and Netbride is also matching that price for $122! Not sure which I’ll end up ordering from. This is from Jasmine B2’s Spring 2006 line, so I’m not sure how long it will be around… =/

I was a bridesmaid last summer and I had to pick my own dress. It was so much work. I live far away from the bride, so it was hard decide which dress she would be want me to wear. I would have much rather just put out the money for one she picked out. Instead I ended up with two dresses that I don’t really like and many hours I lost dress shopping.

One of my BM is wearing that (they each picked their own dress from the B2 line by Jasmine) It fit her great and was very flattering. I think I got a quote from Pearl Place for $99 or $109.

i did a little of each. we all went to several shops and the girls tried on dresses. we found the same dress flattered each of them and went with that one. initially, i thought they’d each end up with a different dress, but they all loved the one dress.

I started out letting them pick their own dress, but with a few rules: 1) It had to be the color that I wanted, and 2) It had to be tea length. But then we went to David’s Bridal and tried on the dresses, and I fell in love with one dress that looked great, so I decided to have them all wear the same dress. So far, only one person has complained, but the complaint had to do with the fit of the dress, not the dress itself. It was something that could be fixed through alterations.

Originally, I was going to go with separates and them each wear the same skirt and choose from two tops, one strapless and one halter. When I realized that I would only have one girl in a halter, I began looking at other options because I didn’t want her to feel like she stuck out. I finally found a one piece halter dress that I absolutely love! We just went this weekend to have all 4 of them try it on, and to my relief, they all loved it as much as I do. I’m really glad I changed my mind and went the way of uniform dresses.

my best friend had initially wanted us to wear the same dress but we all have 3 very different body proportions and the dresses that looked nice on me wouldn’t flatter the other 2 and vice versa. it became such a pain since one of the girls didn’t like anything we tried so the bride decided to pull rank and let us pick our own dress but in the color she’s chosen. it’s A LOT easier this way.

I figure everyone will be most comfortable, be able to wear it again, and have it fit their budget if it’s something of their own choosing. My guidelines are: tea length, not white or black, would prefer red, orange, pink or purple. Whoever gets theirs first is the standard in terms of not clashing too badly. I’ll also make myself available if anyone wants company shopping. It’s not like a group of gorgeous women in pretty gowns will look bad together. And even if they did, the point is that they’re up there with us.

I gave my MOHs a color (green) and am letting them choose what they want. They have very different styles and I want them to have dresses they’ll wear again.

I decided to choose black as the girls’ dress colour because I wanted them each to be able to buy any dress they wanted–and one that they would wear again. I also am not crazy abou that uniform bridesmaidy look. I do want to have several different textures–like one girls is going to wear a black lace dress and my younger sister already has a gorgeous tulle-ish looking dress that I am trying to convince her to wear (she wants to buy something new). The only rule is that it has to be tea length or knee length and predominantly black.

I asked them to pick out some dresses and send me pictures and we could come up with ideas. They said that they would rather I just pick something and let them know, so they wouldn’t have to bother with it. So I did, and we ended up finding one they all liked.

i just picked the dresses myself because they all lived in different cities. i don’t think there’s anything wrong with bridesmaids matching and looking like bridesmaids. ;)

I picked the designer, color, and fabric, and each BM chose her own style of dress. My BMs ranged from a petite 4 to a tall 28. It would’ve been impossible to pick just one dress that would flatter everybody.

I am not opposed to letting them choose their own styles, but in the interest of time and effort, they’re all getting a J.Crew dress that we all loved: Silk Chiffon Sophia in black.

I like the look of different styles, and I was close to doing that, but then we found the J.Crew and it was love. :-)
