Reader Buzz: Bridezillas

December 4th, 2006 @ 4:44 pm by Reader Buzz

Mrs. Bee here.

I was watching an episode of Bridezillas last night, and one of the brides kept grilling her fiance on how he’d like her to wear her wedding day hair. She wanted it up, but when he said he preferred it down, the bridezilla said that 99% of women wear their hair up. The poor groom had to keep changing his answer until he finally agreed with exactly what the bride wanted. Later in the episode, she even forced him to get botox!

Sure it’s amusing to watch, but I really wonder about the brides and grooms who agree to go on that show! If you could, would you want to be on Bridezillas? What about another wedding show (Whose Wedding is it Anyway, A Wedding Story, etc.)?

I HATE that bride. She was the worst out of all of them!

Do they know they are going to be on Bridezilla’s? I always assumed the producers told the participants that they were just going to be on a garden variety wedding show.

How horrible that people would be proud of being that way!

I think I’d be on A Wedding Story, if only for the free videography :-D But Bridezillas? Nope. I enjoy making fun of the girls on that show too much :-D

The girls know they’re on Bridezillas (there’s usually an interview segment where they acknowledge their Bridezilla status). What I cannot fathom is how they can be proud of that behavior!

nope they have open casting, altho i have heard that some reality shows trick you into thinking you’re participating in a different kind of show… but i’m pretty sure bridezillas doesn’t. you can’t make that stuff up! ;)

What I always wonder is what type of compensation are they getting for making total a$$es of themselves on tv!!! =D

i’d much rather be on a wedding story. at least you have a chance of not getting put on blast for your out of character reactions.

They cast for Bridezilla on craigslist here in LA. They say they don’t offer compensation, but a free video of your wedding. I guess you are saving the cost of a videographer.

I think Bridezilla is a nasty show. Not only do the marriages seemed doomed, it doesn’t really capture what weddings are all about. I liked the show “I Do, Let’s Eat” much better. It was so intersting seeing all the different cultures and all the food.

I think reality wedding shows are great, but I want to see some DIY shows, about brides who bust their ass and have magical weddings on a tight budget, or brides who have crazy, super creative weddings.

I still catch myself watching Bridezilla if I see it is on. Ugh!

This season had the worst bridezillas. It’s a toss up for the crown between Regina, Marsha, Milena, Kristina, Malia, and Jon Taylor. I wouldn’t mind being on the Wedding Story..I love watching the interracial weddings. :-)

was the botox bridezilla malia? i don’t really watch the wedding shows but feel like i should for weddingbee. :)

i don’t get the brides who display those attitudes on national tv or the grooms who put up with them!

yup malia was the botox bridezilla. i think her hubby is a former mlb player. you should’ve seen the episodes with regina. her soon-to-be-husband was nothing but nice to her yet she was nothing but a you know what to him. my fiance was watching that episode w/ me and he kept on saying “dude, leave while you can.” LOL

i got a call from a bridezillas producer (for weeks, i kept yelling at all my friends accusing them of outing me as a bridezilla). i’m still trying to figure out how he got my contact information.. probably one of the vendors i contacted?

in his voicemail (i didn’t call him back) he said that the compensation they offer is free videography of your wedding and a 2nd honeymoon on them.

definitely not a show that i would want to be on.. maybe something like “a wedding story” or “who’s wedding is it anyways”.

Mrs. Bee - Wedding story is a lot better. =o) You should watch - you’d like a lot better than bridezilla!

Some Bridezilla moments I completely understand. Most of them are women who ought to take the tapes straight to a therapist for severe anti-social disorders, in my humble opinion. Some of the Whose Wedding Is It Anyway episodes had brides acting like Bridezillas, though some had good ideas. A Wedding Story doesn’t actually typically tell you many details of the wedding; it’s more like a couple’s story. For Better or For Worse had some great ideas and some horror stories on tape.

I think it’s also important to remember that *some* of these Bridezilla moments are edited to look a lot worse than they are. I don’t get WE, so I rarely see the show, but some of the things that made a girl look really Bridezilla-ish were relatively understandable. One in particular was a singer that the girl hired. He was supposed to sing some special song for the couple in Spanish, but then she found out he didn’t even *speak* Spanish, and she sorta lost it when she found out.

I agree that A Wedding Story needs to talk more about the wedding itself. It’s always great hearing the couple’s story, but I find myself noticing glimpses of beautiful flowers, or yummy looking food, or something. And all I do is glimpse it–when I want to see more!
