Beauty Prep For the Big Day

December 6th, 2006 @ 11:47 am by Mrs. Emerald

I just realized that there a ton of little things that a girl has to do in order to look her best for the Big Day.

So far, I have thought of the following things:

Hair: I’m letting it grow out. I figure it can grow another 4.5 inches in the next 9 months, except my hair is really thin, so I’m considering extensions. I don’t really know anything about them except Jessica Simpson has her own line, haha. Next summer I will have to do an all-over dye job in a mahogany brown or something.

Skin: Facials, anyone? Actually my dad is a dermatologist, so I’m considering asking him to give me chemical peels on a regular basis. But those things sting like a mutha!! Maybe some laser hair removal for the teeny fine hairs on my upper lip (yea yea, we all have them). Laser hurts too!

Brows: Has anyone tried threading? I usually pluck, but perhaps my brows would benefit from a professional shaping. I’d want to get a few trials done before next September though.

Body: I don’t tan very well at all (my kid sister develops a fabulous tan in about 10 mins, that little punk!) so I’m thinking about something along the lines of a Mystic tan (spray tan). My derm dad would kill me if I went into one of those tanning booths.

Nails: I have nicely shaped nails, but they tend to break easily, so I need to take good care of them. Hopefully I don’t have to resort to acrylics.

Teeth Bleaching: I need some Crest White strips or something, even though those taste nasty.

Bikini Wax: Dang, there is just too much to think about!

What special beauty regiments did you do/are you doing to prepare for your wedding?

If those hairs are blonde, the laser might not work :(

I get my eyebrows threaded - I love it! It comes us looking so much better than I do it myself. Although it only costs me $7 - if it was more expensive I probably wouldn’t get it done as often.

Threading is great! I highly recommend the Indian or Pakhistani places around Western & Devon. They are pros with your brows.

I also have a place I like for Bikini waxes. And maybe it’s just me…but at this place, the waxing is not as painful…but then again everyone’s pain toleranec is different.

instead of crest whitening strips (they can make your teeth really sensitive), you should try gosmile which you can buy at the sephora store or sephora.com- it’s a bit more expensive but the results are much better and you won’t get sensitive teeth either.

threading is the best.. you should definitely check it out.

good luck with everything and keep us posted!

Don’t do a mystic tan–I’ve found they look really fake. Try a lotion with a gradual tanner, but don’t overuse it either.

Also, you might want to consider a few visits to a tanning salon but only staying for 3-4 minutes each time just to give you a *little* sun, but without too much damage.

As far as bikini waxing goes, give yourself at least a week before the big day in case of irritation, consider using roll-on deodorant over the area afterward (apparently its an old stripper trick that helps decrease irritation and ingrowns), and BE SURE to exfoliate daily (i prefer a natural loofah) so that you don’t get ingrowns. I usually do a shot of tequila beforehand, but I’m sure a couple advil would work too =P (and I only bother with this when I’m going for a full brazilian).

GoSmile also doesn’t taste nasty like Whitestrips (gag!). I think the taste is kind of pleasant - a little bit minty. They also have touch-up GoSmiles that are peach, or pear flavored, but I’m not sure if you can use those as your primary whitener.

threading is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!! you should definately get it. it last longer and its more clean. i’m sure if you ask around people can give you a good person to go too. if you live in NY i would def reccom. one for you!!

Please do not get permanent extensions! I am a colorist in NY and see them all the time. This service ruins the hair it is attached to. It weakens at the bond area and snaps it, therefore making the hair you’re trying to look thicker- fine and damaged!!! A good stylist can find hair pieces or “wefts” to match any haircolor. There are many textures and lengths. What do you think the celebs do? A few of these strategically placed can turn fine locks into a mane!! All they do is attach them to narrow combs or even bobby pin them in. They look beautiful and are very inexpensive! Good luck!

First let me tell you how excited I am for a bee in Chicago! I have the best bikini waxing place. I’ve been to quite a few different places for a brazilian bikini wax and have found this place to be the least painful out of all of them. They also use hard wax so it’s best for sensitive skin (and less painful). The place is called Cleise Spa (http://www.cleisespa.com/).
