Beehive

December 6th, 2006 @ 12:23 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • Miss Apple is looking for places to buy a brooch for her dress’ sash.
  • VivalaMonkee wants to know if Insolia shoe inserts or other inserts work. She’s wearing 3″ heels and needs an alternative shoe post ceremony.
  • Liz’ bridesmaid dresses are in periwinkle and she can’t think of a complementary color. She also needs unique favor suggestions that cost under $2 for her 300 person wedding.
  • kp wants to know if there is an online church directory for in the Long Island area. She’s looking for a Protestant church near the banquet hall mile or Jericho Turnpike.
  • Jen is looking for plain, tall, silver, affordable table number holders.
  • Pencils is looking for a place that will do custom sizing for jr. bridesmaids. She has 4 jr. bms of all different ages/sizes and most of the dresses she’s found look flowergirlish. Maybe she can mix and match - suggestions?
  • CBeth wants to know the best table set up to accomodate as many people as possible: a few very long vertical rows of tables, multiple smaller rows of horizontal tables, or serpentine tables? If they can’t fit everyone, would it be weird to just have grouped seating and a few tables for the older folks? It’s a casual lunch buffet…

Is there anywhere that you can buy simple/plain table number holders? Nothing with a theme, hearts, etc? Just tall, silver table # holders that don’t cost an arm and a leg?

Liz- Favor suggestion: donating to charity. Could be unique and it’s for a good cause. If you do $2 a person, that’s $600! Usually, there’s a small card for each guest that says something like: “We have donated on your behalf to ___” Anyways, this is what we’re doing. ^_^ I’ve been meaning to write up an entry about this… will do soon…

Is it too late for a beehive question? I asked this before under the bridesmaid dresses. Anyway: anyone know of somewhere that has good jr bridesmaid dresses, that will do custom sizing? I have a niece who is rather overweight, and also very tall for her age. She’s also the youngest jr bridesmaid, she’ll be 10. The others are 15, 13, and 11. (I’m having a matron of honor, the jr bridesmaids, and a flowergirl.) I know the 15 yr old won’t want to wear something babyish, and besides she’s in jr sizing. The younger girls still wear girls’ sizes, I believe. I was looking at Pegeen, but they only have one dress that doesn’t scream ¢¢â€š¬…”flowergirl,¢¢â€š¬? and even that will be the wrong sizing for the 15 yr old. Maybe I could put the 10 & 11 year olds in Pegeens, similar to the flowergirl, and the older girls in real bridesmaids outfits? It’s a pickle! Suggestions?

I posted this on the last beehive, but I think I was too late, so here it goes again: I have a fairly small space to work with for my reception. What is the best table set up to accomodate as many people as possible: a few very long vertical rows of tables, multiple smaller rows of horizontal tables, or serpentine tables? Also, if we find out that we won’t be able to fit everyone one in with tables, would it be weird to just have grouped seating and a few tables for the older folks? It’s a casual lunch buffet and we’re having it at a restaurant that my friend owns. Thanks!

Liz: for my favors, we are going to Jones soda bottles with a fun straw tied on with ribbon. You could use any kind of fun glass bottled beverage (Crush, Coke, etc.) that matches your colors/theme. You can also die cut a flower or something and use them as placecards for the tables so they’ll do double duty! Also, some good colors that go with periwinkle: Tangerine, Taupe, Chocolate Brown, Pink (if you want to go extra girly).

for the table number holders, at the wedding i just attended, i think they used silver photo clips! (the ones with the long wire sticking out of a base, and then a clothespin thingy at the top) they looked really simple and elegant.
those should be pretty easy to find, and probably can be found with different bases.

VivalaMonkee, I’ve used Insolia in the past. They made my 2 1/2inch Kenneth Coles more comfortable during a conference. Not that KCs are ever comfortable, but they are so cute. Haven’t used my other set yet but I’ve only ever heard good things.

Liz, I like the charity idea too. Makes it easier on you. But if you like tea, this companies is very yummy and they do personalized favors in your price range. Even better is that you get to choose the flavor of tea with lots of choices. http://www.adagio.com/wedding/index.html

Miss Apple,
I suggest that you visit Sam Moon’s and see what they have in-store. There’s some extremely tacky stuff, but then there’s some very classy stuff. And don’t go near five o’clock, unless you have sharp elbows.

Liz, the website that I linked to on my name has a color wheel for you. (Disclaimer: I’m not in any way affiliated with the site). I’m not a Periwinkle-and-Melon girl, but I know that bright pink, turquoise, and lime green are in this year, and any of those can be used in a triadic.
I’d personally be tempted to do accents in a true purple and royal blue for a monocromatic look.

Jen,
The really basic silver cube base ones are sold in Borders bookstores right near the Thank You cards.

Nony mouse, sam moon was my very first stop for cheap costume jewlery and I purchased a couple of brooches but at my second fitting the broach was either too small and not enough sparkle. -(

I will have to either do some researching online or buy one from lulu’s that was ok but way overpriced.

Thanks for the suggestion, maybe I can stop by there again in a couple of months and maybe they might have some better ones.

Omg, sam moon makes a killing off there stuff, the store is full of women shopping at the most random time of the day too!

Jen, You may find a great deal on table number holders from a restaurant supply company.

VivaLaMonkey - I have Insolias in ALL of my heels. They fit better in some shoes than others, and it takes awhile to figure out the correct placement in each shoe. But they definitely work, although it’s not going to change 3″ heels into sneakers.

I wore a pair of 3″ heels with Insolias for about 12 hours at my friend’s wedding. I was her coordinater, so I was on my feet most of the time. My feet really hurt at the end of the day, but previously I would’ve survived in those shoes for about 15 minutes. It’s sort of like sunscreen and avoiding sunburn!

Miss Apple, this may sound like a basic suggestion, but did you try eBay? There’s many ways to search. I just searched on “diamante brooch” which is what the Brits call rhinestone and got some very nice hits. From Britain, but I buy stuff from there on eBay all the time. For something small, the postage is minimal. When I searched on “vintage rhinestone brooch” I got 3500 hits! When I set it to show highest prices first, some of the items that came up were amazingly beautiful, and when it went past the first couple of very pricey ones, there were some very reasonable items. There are entire categories for vintage and costume jewelry pins with or without rhinestones. Good luck!
