About Open Question

Hi! I’ve got kind of a general question…

Has anyone ever seen/used/heard of scented invitations? My fiance took an example of our DIY invitation to his parent’s house to share with them, and apparently an aunt suggested making them scented. It’s something I never really thought about, and I just wondered how common it is. I’m not really into it, it sort of makes me think of Elle Woods’ resume in Legally Blonde - cute, but not really my style. But for some reason my fiance is very excited about the idea!

Thanks!
Natalie

Honestly I think having a scented invitation in the house would drive me crazy. Beyond the basic fact that it might not be an appealing smell to me, my husband has terrible allergies and gets significant skin irritation when he’s exposed to certain things. I could see how a strongly scented invitation might set that off.

Scents can be too difficult. Some people have allergies, and for some people, like my mom, certain scents trigger migraines.

no thanks. it reminds me of middle school when we’d spritz our “love” notes with our perfume/cologne before sending them off. even then, at least it’s only for one person and you know if they like the scent or not.

Scented invites are incredibly common for Chinese events. People often use scented invites for weddings and baby showers. I personally like it.

I probably wouldn’t want to receive a scented invitation. I almost laughed when you mentioned that it reminded you of Legally Blonde. That’s so funny. Other people brought up a good point, scents aren’t for everyone. It makes me think of Chinese wedding invites and I think those smell horribly strong. I don’t really like it…

I don’t use perfume b/c I am allergic, hower I like perfumes for short time periods. I will love to receive a scented invitation. Actually I received a sweet 16 invite with pout pouri. It was great and I ended up saving it and put it in my draw. :)

I have to pick out invites for my Chinese banquet and the #1 rule is no strangely scented invite, #2 no creepy Asian children on the invite and #3 no pink tissue paper with the already bright red invite.

Strangely enough, the invitation’s scent is what I remember most about Chinese weddigs I’ve been to.

Strong scents can give me a migraine. Doesn’t seem polite to me to send your guests something with a scent they may not like or be able to tolerate.

I don’t think I’d personally go for this either, for fear that it might irritate one of its recipients. Everyone has different ideas of what smells “good,” so what might be nice for me might provoke someone else enough to throw my invite away!! And after all the time spent to make them, I’m not taking any chances!! :)

it is very common back home in Malaysia, its esp popular among the malays. but i would avoid from getting my invites scented bx honestly, i find the smell(s) rather annoying and suffocating, as mild as it can be.

and yeah, after paying extra for those scents and most invites eventually end up in the store or down the bin, so, nah, i wouldnt take the chance! :)

Just me, but I wouldn’t do a scented invitation. That’s getting far too….much.

I recommend against it- for example, my dad has VERY sensitive asthma that can be triggered by perfumes, leaving him miserable the rest of the day. You can’t possibly know all the medical problems of your guests, families, and roommates, and it could cause problems.

So if one wants to get that traditional scented Chinese invitation, where would one get it? I have fond memories of finding those in the mailbox as a child. I’m having the hardest time locating any.
