Proposal Gone Wrong

December 7th, 2006 @ 1:02 pm by Mrs. Bee

Jewelry retailer Ross-Simons is holding a contest for the best Proposal Gone Wrong. Contestants have to submit a video of a reenactment or the real thing of their proposal gone awry. Their panel of judges will then select the best - or should I say worst - proposal, and the winner will receive a $10,000 shopping spree at Ross-Simons. (via manoloforthebrides)

Check out one of the entries below. Poor guy!

Did anything go wrong when your FI proposed?

That HAS to be a joke? No!??! Or actors?? I can’t imagine anyone would ever do that to someone!!

But, I have to say, if I was proposed to on a jumbo-tron at a professional sporting event, I would’ve said no. Even if we were still to get married, I wouldn’t have agreed to that type of proposal. That’s my greatest nightmare come true.

Talk about painful viewing! What amazes me is the woman’s reaction in these first two entries…I’m not sure what I was expecting, but their expressions and speedy getaways are really cinematic. I guess all those movies and tv shows got it right?

Wow…just, wow. Poor girl, poor guy. And the fact that the video is real makes it just seem wrong to include it in a commercial.

It reminds me of an episode of the Drew Carey Show (shut up…it was late and that was teh only thing one), where Drew proposes to some girl in a movie theater full of people. She says yes, and then as soon as they exit the theater she tells him she really meant no—she jsut didn’t want to embarrass him.

Oh gosh! I feel awful for him!

Even though I said yes, I definitely feel bad for my fiance when he proposed! He did a whole day at the shore and finally when we had done a horse-drawn carriage ride and surprised me with dinner on the beach, and just as he was about to do the ring, a drunk guy stumbled up to us and jumped right into the ocean right by the rocks!!! It was pitch black, so my fiance proposed very quickly so we could go get the police!

It definitely gives us a story!

My fiancÆ’© packed the ring for our vacation in Aruba, intending to propose there (and yes, I snooped so I knew the whole time). Then he didn’t propose. He tried one night but the trade winds had died down and it was really hot so he gave up and we went to dinner.

He couldn’t figure out why I was a bit tense at the end of the week - not knowing that I knew about the ring

We were back in NY the next weekend and he asked me to go to the park. It was odd since he was supposed to be going up to his parent’s house and I was dragging my feet, not wanting to visit them. I finally got him to stop bugging me and leave.

Then that night I thought he was going to propose while we were out at dinner but he didn’t - although he said it would be soon. Meanwhile I could see that he had the box in his pocket so I’d had enough and oh-so-stupidly tried to ditch him, hop in a cab and head home but he came with me. We have this fight (and we never fight) and it ends up he was trying to propose that morning but I blew it by not going to the park. He very sweetly offered to take me to the park right then and propose even though we may get mugged. I declined and we lamely set our alarm clocks to get up early Sunday morning and get engaged before a baby shower I had to attend.

It’s an odd story but it’s very us and people who know us just laugh.

he got on one knee, and i said, “what are you doing?”

but that’s not as bad as two of friends. he had planned this whole elaborate vegas weekend, and had not planned exactly where and when he would propose. he kept getting idea after idea — let’s go on a boat ride at the venetian, let’s go to the eiffel tower at paris las vegas, let’s see the glass ceiling at he bellagio — and she kept shooting him down! finally, he comes up with some cockamamie excuse to get her back to their hotel room with a beautiful view of the strip (and she still kept at it! “what are you looking at? let’s go!”) and he finally got the chance to ask her! i love that story because it’s so in character with them.

Nony Mouse

Yes, but I’ve promised never to go into specifics.
And after it all my answer was, “I guess I have to agree now, don’t I?”
He went back and told everyone that I didn’t say yes, but he begged for a do-over.
Which went much better (I said yes), but still made me realize that there was no way in H-E-double-hockysticks that we were going to do our own vows. He rambles when he gets emotional, and then gets more emotional as he rambles, and then can’t remember everything he has said or wanted to say.
It’s cute, endearing, and annoying.

my husband forgot to get on one knee…to his credit, it was snowing (it just started to snow as he started to propose–so pretty!), but i still tease him about it. :)

he was fumbling in his pocket forever, so I had to keep myself busy by staring everywhere except in his direction, yeah….

FI proposed to me with a slideshow. He called me into the room and had me open it myself (by cleaverly disguising the file name), but once the show opened, the music he planned didn’t work! He made me leave the room while he fixed it. I felt bad that the initial surprise was ruined for him due to technical difficulties. The rest was adorable, though! :-)
