69 Restaurant in Chinatown for really really cheap, really really yummy Chinese food

Schooner Adirondak for sailing tours out of Chelsea Piers - $40-ish (I thought this one was really romantic, even with other people on the boat. the sail came with beer/wine, and we brought our own food for a cute picnic-type dinner on the boat)

Chelsea Market also in Chelsea - cute shops and bakeries

I really want to go to New York. I’ve only been once….and it was only briefly…never to the city.

I’ll probably have to stick with good ol’ Chicago for now…-sigh-

Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center knocks the socks off the Empire State Building. In the summer NY Water Taxi (a fun and different way to get around the city) runs a promotion where you get something like a 3 day hop-on hop-off pass and discounts at Top of the Rock and maybe MOMA. I loooove the Frying Pan in the summer though it’s moving 3 blocks North over the winter.

There’s also tons to do in Brooklyn: check out DUMBO, with Jacques Torres’ chocolate shop, the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, and finish with coal-fired brick oven pizza at Grimaldi’s near the Brooklyn Bridge. There’s also the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and Empire-Fulton State Park for great views of Manhattan. If you’re adventurous, you can head out to Coney Island, ride the Cyclone in the summer (best rollercoaster ever!), and try the pizza at Totonno’s (better than Grimaldi’s, I think). The Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Prospect Park are also very pretty in the spring and summer.

I also really enjoy the Bronx Zoo and NY Botanical Garden up in the Bronx. And I’ve been meaning to check out the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum in Long Island City, Queens and the New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden in Staten Island. Whew, I think I hit all the boroughs!

Under Central Park, also include Tiffany & Co. 57th st. and 5th ave. I know it’s “just” a jewelry store, but it’s worth the visit. Also, the latest in Architecture is the Apple Mac Store. It’s a cubic structure made of glass and created quite the buzz. It’s in front of where FAO Schwarz used to be. I believe FAO has closed either for remodeling or for good.

Miss Pearl

This is sooooooo helpful!!!! Mr. Pearl and I are going to NYC for a week around New Years and I was stumped for great restaurants. Plus, I have no concept of locations in Manhattan, so it’s helpful for you to chunk it by area. Danke!
