About Mrs. Strawberry

Mr. Strawberry builds airplanes for a big company that will remain nameless. (It rhymes with mowing…) Anyway, he works a lot. And I mean A LOT. He’s up at 4, gone by 5 and home by 7. When he gets home, he eats dinner and goes to bed. I barely get to spend any quality time with him. I have to keep a picture of him on my desk just to remember what he looks like!

All Work And No Play Makes Mr.Strawberry A Dull Boy : wedding relationships seattle Straw straw.jpg

He just found out that he might have to spend 6 months in Illinois! :( That could seriously put a damper on wedding plans or lives as newlyweds depending on if and when he goes. Most of our relationship has been long distance and the last year was especially tough. Has anyone had to deal with a long distance relationship once married?

Wow, major props for doing the long distance thing. We’re only 6 miles apart, so it’s never been an issue with us.

My parents do the long distance marriage thing and have been at it for almost ten years. It’s just a lot of phone calls at all hours of the night and occasional visits. They’re always so happy to see each other and my mom acts slightly like a teenage girl. My (maternal) grandparents on the other hand did the long distance marriage thing for over fifty years. They never saw each other once during those fifty years (China vs. Panama) however, he came back to China to spend his remaining years with her.

well, i can’t say much about the long distance marriage thing, but i’ve been with my guy for two years now, and the entire time we’ve never lived in the same state. i’ve been in arkansas, and he’s been in north carolina, iraq, tennessee, and now he’s back in iraq. he’s gone for about 3 months at a time now, (although at one point, we went six months w/o seeing eachother)… and i don’t think we’ve been together for longer than two weeks at a time, non stop. it is hard, but we both know that one day we’ll be together.. every day, with that wonderful ordinary life. so we do what we have to do. lots of phone calls, random cards and packages, etc. you just have to put in a little more effort…. and its all worth it, after being apart for so long, those wonderful “see you at the airport” moments, and countdowns until you get to be together again!

i’m like kandice. my bf and i are going on 2 years together now and have been physcially together for just under a month. we do what we can to stay connected [phone calls, email, text messages, care packages] and we still do all the regular couple things like consult each other on major decisions and stuff. we made a goal to see each other 4 times a year [i'm in cali, he's in michigan] after we went 8 months between visits. we’re both desperately looking forward to being in the same state. it sucks being without my best friend. but when i meet him at the airport and am back in his arms this whole thing is worth it. :-)

Long distance can be tough, but cell phones, internet, and webcams make it a lot easier!

My fiance and I have been at least two hours up to a maximum of five hours for a year and a half. We both hate it! But that’s why we’re getting married too! We LOVE those times when we’re together!

I’ve never experienced a long-distance marriage (obviously) but I know a few who have… If I were you I’d consider just following him out there (even if it means quitting your job) if we were married. Sometimes you can do your job through internet if the company is willing…

Anyway, good luck!!

My friend and her husband did. After her husband graduated, he went ot China to help out the family business, and she stayed here to finish her education. She planned the wedding herself, and once they got married and went on their honeymoon he left for China again. It was about 6 months later before she joined him. It can work as long as you both try. :o)
