Magic Beans

December 8th, 2006 @ 6:08 pm by Mrs. Bee

Have you ever seen those magic beans that grow to reveal a message on them? Arex received some as a wedding favor, and documented their growth over 10 days on his flickr.

I couldn’t find these exact magic beans, but there are many similar ones available online.

Another nifty favor is the Flowers in a Can. I’ve given them as gifts before in the past but they’re kinda hard to find - the original store I purchased them has since closed, and it’s sold out in many places. You can find some over at Uncommon Goods but they’re a bit pricey.

I don’t think they grow as lush as the flowers in a can below (taken at a flower mart in Yunnan) but still a super cute favor!

hi there! yeah, my friend eraine customized the words through a place in Taiwan. She basically put 2 beans per terra cotta pot for each guest.

Interesting..the link you have to “Flowers in a Can”….it goes to the website for a store called “Doe” in San Francisco..the one that’s owned by James and Kati Kim, the couple that was in the news…the wife and the daughters were found but sadly, the husband while trying to save his family by looking for help, was found dead…;_(

They had the beans and the flowers in the toy section of Target last year. I got a magic bean for DH as a stocking stuffer. :) I haven’t been in the toy section since, but I could have sworn they were only like $3 each.

I saw these in japanese animae cartoon charaters cups in a bookstore inside Grand Central for about $5 ea. Also, they also carry another type that comes in the egg. Crack the egg open to start growing them.
