About Open Question

Dear Weddingbee,

I’ve been faithful to the WeddingBee blog, and find the cutest ideas and pointers for my upcoming wedding. So I was hoping that I could find some help on my dilemma. My fiance, Joe, and I are very traditional when it comes to church and the idea of what the wedding is supposed to be symbolic of. We’re also kinda going from my dress - which is like a classic yet fairytale Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina type dress (happy sigh). No worries- Joe hasn’t seen it. :)

But we are both kinda quirky and I would really like a way to be able to show that in something, yet I don’t want anything to be “out of place” and/or awkward.

What is a good sneaky way to show that we are traditional, yet different from the rest?

Thanks!

Sincerely,
Your reader Maggie

I’d say with favors, maybe? Like something odd that you two cherish, Star Trek collectables? Or maybe the cake topper? Or your photo to be displayed there could be kooky? I think favors are the best idea, though!

I think we need more details to be able to give you specific advice. What about your wedding is set in stone? What’s then left for you to play with? The reception offers a lot of opportunities for individual expression - whether it’s the music you choose or your color/flower scheme or your wedding cake (or lack there of in my case). A lot of people think you have to have certain things a certain way for it to be a wedding - totally untrue. If a flower or a color or a food choice speaks to you, then go for it and it will be right because you love it.

I actually saw a show on a Audrey Hepburn breakfast at tiffany’s wedding on the Style network a couple days ago - you should check it out! but it was kinda taking the whole theme too far lol -
the BMS wore elbow length gloves, big pearls, and a big bouffant hairdo, like in breakfast at tiffanys

as for something somewhat HELPFUL, i’d say keep it elegant and classy, like some really unique china patterns and lots of candlelight… i;m not sure what else… i guess we do need more details :)

Maggie, I am sure that there are many ways to show your quirky side without being “out of place.” Afterall, your guests know and love you two for who you are, and that includes your quirkiness, right? Don’t be afraid to embrace who you are! Good luck. =o)

I’m kind of the same - I want a pretty traditional ceremony, but a fun reception. Right now I’m leaning towards glass-bottled Cheerwine and Nehi instead of punch.

There are lots of options. Mostly I recommend that every choice you make, even if traditional, has meaning or is personalized. Look at the decisions you’ve already made and think “Why did I choose this?” Name the tables after places important in your relationship, or after different interests each of you have. Pay attention to the music- you could come in or recess to your favorite songs, or your favorite style of music. Use your favorite flowers and the state flowers of your hometowns. The wedding cake and the groom’s cake especially are good places to show personality. This is just the beginning- everything should represent you- accessories, food, favors, all can be your own. The people that know and love you- your guests- will understand every little touch and make the day more special. Surf the internet to see what other people have done, and try to translate that to your wedding; that’ll also help your imagination.
Hope this helps!

Some good ideas already mentioned, and both were things that I was going to say…if you’re going to have a groom’s cake, definately make it more of a “both of your guys’ cake”…with something you both love incorporated, or like it’s been mentioned, with the cake topper on your wedding cake!

Also, maybe the little details. Placecards are an area that you could sort of show your personality on. Without knowing exactly what sort of wedding you’re having (details and whatnot), I can’t really think of anything else…heh.
