About Mrs. Emerald

The Long And The Short Of It

December 8th, 2006 @ 1:41 pm by Mrs. Emerald

I have spent the morning perusing veilshop.com and ebay for veils. I’m leaey about the quality of the ebay ones though. As a general consensus, I’ve heard good reviews about veilshop, both their products and customer service. Their prices are slightly more expensive than what I was expecting (when people say the veils are “cheap,” I was thinking $40 - $50, but that’s not the case).

My dress has a short train, only 2 or 3 feet max, but I don’t think I want a cathedral length veil because I’m only 5′ and it would be overwhelming on me. Based on the website (and the creepy mannequins shocked.gif), I think these are the 2 veils I am interested in:

Ivory Angel Cut Waltz Length, 52″ with a detachable blusher, $98 + shipping

Ivory Angel Cut Chapel Length, 88″ with a detachable blusher, $107 + shipping

Are these prices reasonable?? I have’t done too much research yet. I did try on something similar to the first pic at the bridal store where I purchased my gown, and I think it was around $80, but I wouldn’t have to pay shipping in that case. On the other hand, I like the length of the second one as well. It seems more “dramatic”and “bride-y” and it drapes beautifully around her shoulders! blush1.gif

What length veil are you going to be wearing?

Also on veilshop…

I am considering ordering these inexpensive faux pearl sets for my bridesmaids, in ivory (shown in white below). At $8 for the whole set (necklace, earrings, and bracelet), that’s an unbeatable deal!! Not sure if it will look mucho cheapo though. It would be nice to get my girls something they would wear again, but then everyone has their own taste in jewelry. So even if I spend a lot of $$ on their accessories, there is only a slim chance that they might choose to wear it again, no? At least for $8, I wouldn’t feel bad at all if they never touched them again!

I also really like these earrings, pricier at $21… they are so elegant and dramatic!! But at 4 3/4″, that seems ridiculously long, doesn’t it? (I’m at work, and just stuck a ruler next to my head, haha)

I’m wearing an elbow length veil. My dress is very simple with a chapel length train (I believe) and is very simple, so I wanted a simple veil. My dress has red on it (our colors are red and black), so I got a veil that is trimmed in red cording, a nice little touch.

I like the pearl jewelry set. It doesn’t look cheapy in the picture, but with an online purchase, you never really know. It could look completely different in person and up close.

Veils are so so silly! I got a gorgeous cathedral length veil yesterday that was priced at $1080 for only $75. That means they’re still making money on it at that price… so yeah! Boo on veil prices!!!

For the jewlery I would buy one as a sample since they’re so cheap. http://www.Overstock.com has some nice real pearl pieces that are a little more expensive. I got an earring-necklace set of real pearls (only one pearl on the necklace) for $15 at J.C. Penney for my sister’s wedding- which is to say there are a lot of deals out there if you look real hard.

OMG I’ve been looking for more earings like that! I have a pair in silver but instead of a pearl its a crystal. I have multiple piercings on my ears so what I do is loop the chain through the rest ^_^

Don’t be too afraid of the ebay ones. There are great deals there. I bought mine from an ebay seller named veilboutique. Single tier cathedral length. It was under $30, came really quick and was perfect!
