About Mrs. Orange

The link to the VS Fashion Show 2006 is here.

I have a very practical question for my gown. With my first fitting due in a month, I was told that I MUST have my wedding day shoes and undergarments with me or the salon would not not honor the appointment for the first fitting. I already bought my shoes, but I’m not exactly sure what to do with the undergarments. I need to know whether I need to buy a brand new strapless or just use the one I have and love? There are stores like BraTenders that specialize in choosing the best bra for your gown.

Did you buy or are you planning to buy undergarments just for use on your wedding day?? What’s the verdict?

This may or may not have been the best decision, but I went ahead and bought the bustier and slip that they gave me to use when I went in to try on the gown. I thought it looked good and went well with the dress, so I might as well purchase it for the day-of!

I’ve since come to realize that I probably could have gotten it for cheaper and/or even done without the slip! But, I’m glad I purchased it because I know they work well with the gown and that’s one less decision I have to worry about!

Good luck!

I forgot to add that I already bought the crinoline at the bridal salon. Probably not the best idea since it was $75 (from the same designer, but hello? who will see it anyway?). Will probably sell on eBay afterwards.

I am using the strapless VS bra I already have.

I have a VS strapless bra that I bought shortly after getting my dress. But the bra is so incredible I’m already wearing it really frequently! Since my gown is a corset top, I didn’t need any smoother or shaper–and my uggy old legs will be hidden by the skirt, so no Spanx! I’ll be a comfy, happy gal :-D

my dress has a ton of construction, so i won’t need to wear a bra. i’m not buying another crinoline.

i am starting to feel like i am dating this dress! i buy it little gifts (accessories), make sure it is comfortable (alterations), check in with it (does this crinoline make you look fat, dress? okay, i won’t get it.), and am losing weight to look better for the dress!

Well, as of now, since I haven’t looked for dresses (minus one trip), and have no undergarments to use for the future Mrs. Kiwi’s dress, I have nothing to say. Other than I’m a lazy cow. And I love your dress. And I’m lazy. I’m planning (if I ever get a dress) to get a strapless corset to smoothe the lovely lady lumps that have accumulated on my hip-like region. Luckily my legs are good. So probably bare, with some sucker-inner undies.

i’m hoping they will be able to sow cups into my dress otherwise, i don’t need anything else special heh.

without a doubt buy the flattering me bra! the cups they sew in really don’t look the same, and the longline bra makes the dress sit just right.

I think it all depends on the dress and your body. I knew I needed major support so I went to a store that custom fit bras. I brought a picture of me in my dress so she would know how high the back was. If I was a smaller size (I’m a 32DDD) I would have either picked up a strapless/longline bra at Nordstrom or bought one from the bridal salon. The seamstress ended up sewing the longline bra I bought into the dress for greater support.

Miss Blueberry, which VS strapless bra did you get?

I had the same issue as you — the seamstress said I needed the undergarments and shoes for her to fit me properly. I wasn’t exactly sure what bra would work with my dress so I went to TownShop on the UWS. They were great. You have to wait a bit to be fitted, but then the do a good job. I ended up getting a bra from there, one from Macy’s, and one from Bloomies — all returnable — and the one from TownShop was the winner. I was amazed that different bras looked very very different under the dress!

I also have a VS strapless — not sure of which one it is but it’s got a removeable gel thingy.

I had cups sewn into mine as well…if I hadn’t, I probably would have worn a strapless bra I already own. They are so expensive in the bridal store and not comfortable enough to wear again.

I thought I could just go braless (mine is corset), but I went ahead and bought a bustier (?) from David’s ($79). It has kind of like padding along the front panel, and it really enhances the way the torso of my dress fits, because it “fills out” any little creases in the fabric. Pretty big difference. And then my alterations lady said it was a good one because it sits on my hips so it won’t slide down. Plus, it makes my posture better. I think you would benefit from one.

L–here’s a link to mine:

It’s relatively difficult to take care of (you have to store it in its own box and make sure it won’t wrinkle or anything), but works SOOOO well. Of course, I’m relatively small (34B), but it offers all the support I need and is super-comfy :-)

OMG! I am wearing the same dress for my wedding! I was told that a lot of Japanese brides like that gown.

I am wearing the ever so popular Le Mystere bustier underneath my Neptuno. It’s really comfortable..

Greetings from Charlottesville! My dress looks similar to yours and dips low in the back. I can’t stand bustiers so I will most likely just wear those chicken fillet looking things called the NuBra. I’ve worn them out all night before and they look natural and you can’t feel them. Even while sweating, those darn things stay on!

One thing you can do if you want the dress to have less structure (which you may not - completely depends on the look you want) is to take the bones out of the torso. I’m doing this on my dress because I prefer to have it look less structured.

Your dress looks gorgeous!
