Gloves Anyone?

December 12th, 2006 @ 11:14 am by Mrs. Apple

While skimming through some wedding magazines, I came upon this photo. What do you think of wedding gloves? Is it a detail of the past? When I think of white gloves, I think of either Michael Jackson or a butler.

I do love the look of these gloves on the late beautiful Carolyn Bessette though. Anyone know who designed them? What are your thoughts on wedding gloves?

The dress was designed by Narciso Rodriguez so maybe he designed the gloves as well.

I personally love white gloves but only with a gown that has a simple silhouette.

I agree with Ocicats, ballgowns with gloves reminds me of the debutante/prom days. A smooth chic silhouette would be more classic vs. young. Ah, they were such a beautiful couple. :(

I have had several people suggest that I wear gloves. I immediately dismissed this as too “prom-y”, but this picture makes me reconsider.

I’m not a huge fan of gloves, these are cute but they look really loose. Personally, show off that beautiful wedding ring and let your husband hold your hand instead of having a fabric barrier.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Bessette was beautiful, but I don’t think they work for her….

I always felt like gloves looked so dated, not vintage or retro. And i think they distract from the dress. But this is just my opinion and I am sure I can be proven wrong.

i’ve always thought caroline was epitome of a natural and simple beautiful bride. i LOVE her entire ensemble: the hair, make-up, dress, flowers, etc. BUT… i do NOT like the gloves. crazy that even she couldnt pull it off :O

I love them if they have meaning (like they were her grandmother’s or mother’s) or if they are old fashioned-ish (such as crochet or lace).

But as far as plain white gloves, with the exception of the beautiful Caroline, they remind me of high school proms.

I love gloves when the dress isn’t frou-frou/poofy. Then it’s overboard. Also if they’re net, 80s punk nonsense. But my hands get very cold, very quickly, and I typicallly wear a pair of long black satin gloves with my little black dress. My fingers stay warmer, and you never have to deal with clammy hands.
I’m not wearing a pair with my dress, though, because I can’t see destroying a pair just for a ring exchange.
