Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

Disney Dancin’?

December 14th, 2006 @ 12:47 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

For Halloween of ‘05, Mr. Kiwi and I bought season passes to Disneyland, a place I love more than life itself. We went every month or so - enough to ensure we had earned our money back. When we go to Disneyland, I regress back to eight and actually run from ride to ride, pulling Mr. Kiwi behind me. I turn into Waltzilla (heh heh, Miss Blueberry!) and bark orders about which ride to go to next, why we can’t possibly eat lunch yet, “Look how empty Star Tours is!”, and how badly my feet hurt. This place is special for us because we’ve spent many the night and day at the Happiest Place on Earth, holding hands and grinning from ear to ear.

I’m so much a Disney fan, we actually got engaged in front of the castle with rain falling lightly around us. Even though we had been there for ten hours, all the pain and tenderness in my feet went away as I told Mr. Kiwi “Yes, of course I’ll marry you.” Thanks to those few minutes at the end of our day at Disneyland, it will forever be a meaningful place holding memories that will never be forgotten. With the ring firmly on my finger, we went shopping for a memento of that night and I got them: swarovski crystal studs in the shape of Mickey Mouse ears that I’m planning on wearing on our wedding day.

Since we’ve been having so much trouble finding a first dance song (yes, there is plenty of time, but still), I had an epiphany yesterday. It just hit me as I was listening to When you Wish Upon a Star on my ipod - what about a song from a Disney movie? Thinking Mr. K would shoot this idea down faster than the pink vest idea, I hesitantly broached the subject while watching The DaVinci Code last night. Shocker of all shockers, he said, “That actually would be special, and would definitely be meaningful.”

So, looks like it’s a go! I’m sorry to keep bombarding you all about this first dance thing, but it really is the sole focus of my sad little brain lately. Once this is chosen, I will be done with that. Until I need the other songs. ;) Anyway, while I do love A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes, and the Jiminy Cricket song mentioned above, I want to know if there are any other sweet, slowish Disney first dance songs. I think this is the direction we’ll be going now. Any ideas?

A Whole New World! I’ve always like that song. =) I think it just depends on what kind of feel you’re looking for. If you want to feel princessy, “When You Wish Upon a Star” would do it. But I think “A Whole New World” is pretty appropriate. =D Haha, this is going to be a tough choice for you. Any Disney song is good!

Mrs Bee, I don’t know, I’ve never heard it at a wedding before! I was thinking about “Kiss the Girl” from The Little Mermaid (MY fave ever!), or there is this one song from Chicken Little by Five for Fighting- but Chicken LIttle is soooo newish. Not even going to think about A Whole New World, Mr. Kiwi already vetoed. :(

You could do the song they kiss to in “Lady and the Tramp”. Kind of cute, not too little kid-ish.

“When Somebody Loved Me” from Toy Story 2 is kind of sad, but it could kind of be hopeful. Might even be somewhat appropriate since you guys were together way back when and then reunited.

That question reminds me of something: When we were meeting with our DJ, he said a lot of people have done “Beauty and the Beast” as their first dance song, and I burst our laughing. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite disney movie, but what the heck would everyone think, that I think my groom is a beast??? hehe.

Miss Kiwi! We should meet up at DL one weekend! :) Mr. Lemon and I have season passes as well… and I used to be a “silly” member of the fab five!
I’m using a different character for my sash pin though :)

I can’t get through “When you wish upon a star” without rivers flowing from my eyes… it’s perfect, just so tear-inducing! I even cry when I hear it on the SuperBowl commercials!

Jen, I can only imagine. His family would hate me! “She thinks our Mr. Kiwi is a beast??” Or what if there were like, “Awwww, poor Kiwi, she doesn’t have very much self-esteem, does she?” Yikes. I must say, that was the first rejected song! :D

Guys, all great suggestions! I think I am SET on this idea, so when I finally post “the song” I will be sooo relieved! I was looking up the lyrics for all of the mentioned songs and I’m sooo excited. Even if the lyrics aren’t perfect (like Emily’s suggestion) I think the fact that it’s recognized will really make it special. :)

Miss Lemon, that would be AWESOME. I LOVE DL, and I even have three ornaments on our tree from there (also from just the last year), I have a few different ears/hats/tshirts and mugs! When I hear Jiminy (on my ipod) it makes me nostalgc for some Haunted Mansion!

What about ‘Once Upon a Dream” from Sleeping Beauty or ‘Someday my Prince will come” from Snow White.

I saw a couple do their first dance, a waltz, to “Once Upon A Dream,” and it was beautiful!

I am so happy for you. I am a huge Walt disney world junkie too. I love everything about it. And my fiance took me to Walt disney world for our anniversary in May and after about 12 hours at the parks (we were staying at a disney resort so the parks were open for us til midnight) he proposed to me in front of cinderella’s castle at midnight. When I read your story I couldn’t believe how similar it was to my engagement. He waited until midnight (the day of our anniversary) and I was complaining about how much my feet hurt and he kept insisting we go to the castle. I finally gave in but I called him crazy about a billion times walking over there. When he proposed I couldnt believe it and I forgot how tired I was and that my feet were killing me, I was on cloud nine! Congrats!
