Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

While looking up creative gifts for Mr. Kiwi and family, I came upon One Share - a website that allows you to buy one share of a company’s stock for a loved one. They can come framed (extra charge), with a matte (plain is free, others like “Certified Stockholder” or “My First Stock!” are available for a fee), and you can add an engraved plaque with various sayings for ten dollars. The person who gets the gift actually is treated like a stockholder, with shareholder benefits.

My favorites:

This can have a plaque engraved with many things. Some of the examples they give you: “It’s a Small World after all, and my small world is better with you in it.” or “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes, May all your dreams come true.”

I’m sure a lot of us wouldn’t mind a little piece of Tiffany!

For the comic book nerds we all love: Marvel Enterprises!

And for the computer geeks, Microsoft!

There are a ton more, too. I think they’d be great gifts for anniversaries, weddings, new babies… You can even propose on the little plaque they gift you! I may have to tell Mr. Kiwi what I’d like - a little piece of Disney!

Hm, seems like a gimmick to me. One share of Tiffany’s costs about $39 today, which is what they charge you, but then they tack on $55 for the frame, engraving and matte.

I got one share of Disney stock twenty years ago as an “educational” Christmas gift. Over the years it has split a few times and I got more certificates (like the one posted). I’m sure you can just buy one share and get a frame for it too.

Thanks for the email, Miss Kiwi! I am sure my boyfriend would absolutely love it… I think he enjoys “owning” part of the happiest place on earth =)

I love the idea!!! I wonder if you can purchase just one share of stock from another source (bank, broker, etc)? They you could frame and matte it yourself. You could maybe save the transfer fee…but I’m clueless at how buying stocks work.

Yes, you can purchase individual shares just by contacting “Shareholder Services” for the company that you want to purchase. You just have to request a paper certificate versus electronic. There might just be nominal brokerage costs incurred.

The Cleveland Indians are a publicly traded company and I’ve purchased certificates as gifts to Tribe fans before. It’s a very cute gift idea!

What a great idea! I like the beer ones. Heh. I know a few people that would probably get a kick out of them.
