The Greatest Gift of All

December 15th, 2006 @ 9:30 am by Mrs. Pearl

It was 4 years ago, as of December 20, that I realized I wanted to spend forever with Mr. Pearl.

We had been dating for about five and a half months at that point. I knew I loved him and that he would be my forever. I was going to school at Arizona State at the time and he was due to come visit me that weekend before Christmas (December 20-22) in Tempe for us to spend our own little Christmas together before I went home to my family. It was our first Christmas together and we were both excited for a visit.

I was at work on Friday morning when my cell phone rang and the caller ID showed it was Mr. Pearl. When I picked up, it was his mother. She told me he had been taken to the hospital that morning. They didn’t know what was wrong with him, just that his heart was out of rhythm. All I knew after hanging up was that I needed to get out of work and find my way back to Los Angeles.

I went home and looked for flights. I found one leaving about 3 hours later. I called one of my good friends in LA and arranged for her to pick me up from the airport and take me to the hospital. I kept all this a surprise from him, and the look on his face as I walked into his hospital room was priceless — a memory I still treasure to this day.

That experience really made me realize how important Mr. Pearl was (and is) to my life. I knew that somehow he’d always be in my life, though primarily I wanted him as my partner.

What was your first holiday season like with your significant other?

We’d already been dating for 7 months, gotten engaged, and gone through a bunch of family upheaval and tragedy, by the time we had our first Christmas together. Because of the family stuff Christmas at my house was really subdued, but then on Xmas afternoon we went from KC to St Louis to celebrate with his family, which was a ton of fun. We made it through the holidays without fighting (much) or getting snippy at each other, which i think is a good test of a couple’s true compatibility :-)

Awww, that’s a a really sweet story, Miss Pearl! Glad he’s alright! Did they find out what was the matter?

My first holiday with Andrew was amazing. He asked me out on Christmas Eve of 2004, so the holidays are an especially special time for us. I remember we had gone out for a drive, as friends, and by the end of the night, he had asked me out. We just drove around holding hands, and it was absolutely wonderful. We didn’t do anything big, but it was great just being the two of us. Since we had only started going out, he didn’t come to my family’s house for Christmas Day, because he hadn’t even met my Mom yet! But he came in Christmas of 2005, and he’ll come forever! lol.

I went to ASU too! Go Devils! I was there from 1995-2000. Now I am in the OC! My first holiday season was alittle hectic (a guess who’s coming to dinner remake), but it was only 3 months into our relationship and have completely rebounded from the incident. Hopefully this one will be better! he he!

This will actually be Joe and I’s first Christmas together. We were not even dating last Christmas. We had been dating for 8 months when Joe asked me to marry him. I knew from the moment I met Joe that I wanted to be with him.

This summer, Joe got in a bad car accident. His car was totaled, but luckily he didn’t have a scratch on him- only a slight burn from the air bag. He kept calling me, but I didn’t hear it because I was in a lunch meeting with our pastor. Once I got into my car, I started checking my messages. I called him after the first. He was still shaken, and in the process of renting a car- he was coming in to get me for our friend’s wedding.

I knew, even after 5 months of dating, that God meant for him to come into my life. After month 2 we said I love you, and in month 3 we began to plan the rest of our lives. By month 7, we were asking my parents’ permission and Joe started shopping for an engagement ring. It’s been an amazing whirlwind- Praise God for Joe.

awwwww! that is such a sweet story. we haven’t faced anything like that yet (knock on wood), but i know i can always rely on mr. wan when i need to.

our first holiday was fun. i was living at my aunt’s house at the time, sharing the master suite with my kid. we’d only been dating for about 3 months, but had been friends for almost 2 years. he surprised us by bringing us a christmas tree for our room, and showered us with some really nice gifts.

but the best gift was him. i’d known for a long time that he was the one for me. it took another four years for me to beat it into him.

ain’t it romantical?
