The Kiddies Are Comin’!

December 15th, 2006 @ 12:50 pm by Mrs. Emerald

Last night I called my cousin K, and asked if her two kids would join me on my wedding day as our ring bearer and flower girl. It was slightly awkward since I haven’t seen or spoken to K in about two years, but nonetheless, I still wanted her little son and daughter to be part of the wedding. She seemed really flattered that I thought of them and said she would get back to me ASAP about their availability - apparently her husband has an annual work-related conference that generally takes place in early September, right around when my wedding will be. But hopefully it all works out!

By next fall, my little ring bearer will be 5, and my little flower girl will be 3! Perfect! We may also have an additional flower girl, but she will only be barely 1 years old by then, so it depends on how cooperative she is. This one is Mr.Emerald’s baby cousin, who has THE cutest chubby cheeks ever!!!

I think we are gonna do something different than the traditional ring pillow and flower girl basket. What we actually want to do is have them carry teddy bears down the aisle!

For the little boy, I want to get him a bear like this from Buildabear:

And have the wedding rings tied in a ribbon around the bear’s neck.

And for the little ladies, we are thinking of getting these vanilla Buildabears:

And string a ring of flowers around its head or neck.

I dunno, maybe it’s just me, but I think this idea is totally cute! It certainly would make for great pictures as well, and would serve as the kids’ present. Fun stuff! But we’ll hold off on gettin these til next summer…

I did that for my wedding with the flower girl because she has some issues with her right arm and was not able to hold onto flowers. I dressed the build-a-bear in a little bride costume and my flower girl loved getting her bear. It’s a great alternative to flowers when the children are too young or not able to carry flowers
