Bridesmaids Dress = Check!

December 18th, 2006 @ 8:26 am by Mrs. Plum

This weekend, we went to a bridal salon to try on bridesmaid dresses. I had an overall idea of what we were looking for and just picked all the dresses that conformed to those rules and tried them on!

After trying on about 4 dresses, we found “The One!”

The dress on 2 of my bridesmaids:

We ended up picking this dress because it was “universally” flattering on all body types. It’s the right color combination too! :) Of course we’ll have to get it hemmed/shortened because we are “blessed” with short Asian legs. :P

The only thing now is checking online vendors for pricing on this dress! I’m calling all the usual discount online vendors (aka Netbride, RK Bridal, Pearl’s Place). This dress from this particular bridal salon costed $268 each.

We also liked this Jim Hjelm gown, but decided to go with the A-line tea length dress.

Very pretty! I am also going for the Lagoon or Cloud for my bridesmaids. It’s such a pretty color.

This is the dress my brideamaids wore for my wedding! But mine were in Azalea and Mango - they girls loved them.

Great Choice :)

Hey - so I have a question for you. Do you happen to know what material the fabric is made of? Silk or a synthetic? Cant seem to find the information anywhere… Thanks!

That is so pretty. I love the color, but would also be interested to know silk or synthetic.

This is the exact same dress and color my bridesmaids wore for my wedding this past September! I found this dress and based my color scheme on it.

Word of advice, have your bridesmaids (or you) get the dresses professionally pressed before the wedding. On my wedding day, some of the dresses were a little wrinkled after being inside the bag for so long. So some of the bridesmaids tried to steam the dresses by hanging them in the bathroom and turning on the hot water. In the end, the dresses ended up getting these hideous wet spots that don’t dry the same color as the rest of the dress. My day of coordinator had to scramble to find a 1 hour dry cleaners that was opened on a Saturday.

The material of the dress is a satin face taffeta.

Hi Miss Plum~

I was just the MOH at a wedding and had this EXACT dress. We chose custom colors for the fabric and had them specially made through JH. All of the BM’s were measured and the dress shop recommended that we all go up a size which we did, knowing that you can get dresses taken in but not out. EVERY SINGLE DRESS came in too small. Two of the girls had to have theirs re-made as they were both the same size dress and both totally different. Ultimately we had a horrible experience, but I haven’t heared of others with the same story. If you let the dress out (there was extra fabric in the seam allowance) there are ugly holes all down the lining - one of the BM’s did this without talking to the Bride and was shunned for her mistake - the dress was hideous after the alterations. I chose to suck it up (literally) and the dress literally cut off my circulation and I had to be treated for Oxygen deprivation the Monday and Tuesday after the wedding (seriously). Another girl also passed out at the reception while dancing from what she claims was a too tight dress, (we think it was the liquor though ;) ).

Yes, the dress is gorgeous and universally looks gorgeous on everyone, but this was ultimately the most expensive mistake we made.

My recommndation - go UP TWO sizes so that you don’t have BM’s passing out.
